The Offer
- Kroger and affiliated stores are offering 4x fuel points on gift cards this weekend – Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (9/1-9/3); unlimited use
The standard deal at Kroger is 2x fuel points on gift card purchases, and they’ll occasionally release offers like this one to get 4x fuel points. Login to your online account to find the coupon at your local store and load it to your card.
All third-party gift cards seem to be included in this offer, but not Kroger gift cards. Should work on fixed-denomination prepaid Visa/MC/Amex gift cards too.
Our Verdict
Usually, every 1000 fuel points will get you a discount of $1 per gallon with a 35-gallon limit, a max value of $35 per 1000-points. (These details do vary by store and region.) If you buy $250 in gift cards and max out the 35-gallons, it’ll end up a 14% discount on the gift cards.
There’s only one other gift card coupon showing in the digital coupons to save $5 on two Cracker Barrel gift cards totaling $50.
You can also get free cell phone service with Kroger when you earn fuel rewards points.
Hat tip to Slickdeals
Appears Kroger has re-loaded the 4x Gift Card promo — now applies through end of September. (Must load on-line savings coupon to account… one load applies to “participating” gift cards — e.g., all merchant cards — and a separate one that applies to fixed visa/mc denominations up to $100)
My “verdict” 🙂 : almost a “ho hum” (easy to say being satiated at the moment with “free gas” from Martin’s)… Yet could be drawn in if Kroger adds on discounted merchant gift cards. (as they’re likely to do somewhere along the next 18 days) And could always use a fill-up on Kroger wireless minutes.
This stacks nicely with the “Fuel It Up” AMEX Offer, too! Been doing this a lot since July. I have 4 5-gallon gas cans i use to top off to 35 gallons when I redeem the Kroger side. Meanwhile the 6 times points of the AMEX offer just keeps adding up!
Fill up 2 cars at once
So if you have 1000 points and don’t need to fill up the full 35 gallons, can you use it again later? Does it have to be all one transaction where you get $1 off per gallon or can it be several until the points are used?
The points are used in 1 transaction. If you want to get the full 35 gallon benefit, bring some gas cans. The points also expire at the end of the following month.
Does this mean 2000 fuel points $2 off, 3000 means $3 off ? Thanks in advance.
Think it’s usually max 1,000 points per fillup, so max $1 off per gallon.
So it won’t work on the variable load vgc then? I usually go for the $500 load to keep my fees at 1%.
Right, doesn’t work on variable load cards.
Does this work at Pick ‘n Save in Wisconsin? They are owned by Kroger but the Digital Coupons section of their web site has different listing than Kroger (even though they use the same website and login accounts)
