The Fine Print
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Savings account has a $3 monthly fee that is waived with an average daily balance of $200.
Early Account Termination Fee $20
This account has an early account termination fee of $20 if the account is closed within 180 days of account opening.
Our Verdict
This is much better than the $100 savings bonus usually available when you open a checking account and even better than the last dedicated savings bonus they offered as well. If you live near a branch I think this is worth doing and will add it to our list of the best savings account bonuses.

Opened Dec 16th with $2,000.
$100 bonus appeared this morning.
Same, me and P2 both.
I am confused by the offer summary. Is there a household limit?
Doesn’t appear to be one. Household limit: None
It also says Household limit “one” “this is enforced”
8/21 – Opened account in branch also with a separate checking account bonus offer
8/21 – 11/30 – Kept a little over $2K balance in account entire time
12/4 – withdrew all funds except $200 to keep fee free
12/20 – $100 bonus posts (didn’t see until this morning)
Easy $100, thank you
I’d rather wait for a checking bonus and combine them.
Can’t open account with Austin area zip code.
It still seems worth doing and wanted to share because it also appears you can apply online now! Per my emailed promo code:
” Apply online now or bring this promo code to your nearest Hancock Whitney location and present it when you open a Silver Savings account. There’s no need to print. We’ll be happy to verify the code right on your smart phone.”
Unfortunately as
Grant mentioned, the San Antonio/Austin area can’t open account online even with an emailed promo code. Once zip is entered, the website states:
“We are unable to process your application online. Please visit one of our convenient branch locations to apply. Thank you.”
NEW TERMS:
Superscript 1:
“To be eligible for the promotion: A Silver Savings account, with new money not currently held by Hancock Whitney, must be opened with an opening deposit of $500 or more by 12/31/19. The promo code is required at account opening. The email given at account opening must match the email address submitted to get the offer promo code. Then maintain an average monthly balance of at least $500 or more through 2/29/20.
If average monthly balance requirement is met, the earned savings bonus will be based on the average monthly balance of the Silver Savings account as of 2/29/20. One savings bonus based on the account’s highest average monthly balance amount.
Average Monthly Balance on 2/29/20 Savings Bonus
$0 – $499.99 $0
$500.00 – $999.99 $25
$1,000.00 – $1,999.99 $50
$2,000 + $100”
That’s same as before, just dates as different. Second time talks about the average daily balance
The section “bonus depends on your balance” isnt written clearly then as it references minimum deposit instead of average which makes it sound like only an average of $500 is required and you just have to find the minimum but it doesn’t need to be maintained which isn’t the case.
Also, more importantly, the verdict still says
“If you live near a branch I think this is worth doing…”
nowhere is it referenced that this can now be done online.
“Ensure you have an average daily balance of at least $500”
I’ve made the next section clearer
DP – I posted this same information in the other Hancock Whitney priority checking bonus post so copying it here since I also opened up a silver savings account for this bonus.
1. Chex – Yes not sensitive. 40+/12
2. Applied in branch with an out of state DL/address. Needed manager approval to open account.
Can someone who did the bonus before confirm the monthly average aspect: if I open it in July with $500-should I deposit remaining $1,500 by 9/30 and then maintain the monthly average of $2,000 through 11/30?
Note that the bonus is now deposited in the account, not a VGC, and counts as interest. Offer valid until 9/30/19 and balance must be maintained until 11/30/19
I did the last one where the pay out is in cash instead of vgc… Still a nice 10% roi
