Last Day To Make Citi Price Rewind (Price Protection) Claims Before New Rules

Citi is making changes to it’s Price Rewind program starting July 29th (tomorrow). For those not familiar Citi’s Price Rewind is a price protection policy, if you purchase an item with your Citi card and then you find that same item at a lower price within 60 days Citi will refund the difference. They will be making the following changes on July 29th:

Prior to July 29, 2018On or After July 29, 2018
How Long is Citi Price Rewind Available?60 days from date of purchase for each item60 days from date of purchase for each item
Maximum Benefit per itemThe lesser of the following:
$500
The amount charged to the Citi card
The lesser of the following:
$200
The amount charged to the Citi card
Maximum Benefit per calendar year per account$2,500$1,000

In addition the following items won’t be eligible: consumables, tires, watches, firearms, or ammunition. I’d recommend making any price rewind claims you’re eligible for now before the new rules go into place to avoid disappointment. I think the new rules only apply to items purchased after this date and some are saying the maximum cap will also reset on 1/1/19. I guess we won’t know for sure for a few weeks.

Citibank told me that if the item was bought before 7/29, it was subject to the old rules and I would eligible for the $500 max if I bought an item today for 60 days, that the new rules for those items bought after today. I wonder if she was mistaken.

Now, I assume though that the maximum benefit will apply per account, which sort of stinks for those that already did $1,000.

it sounds logical that lower limit applies to items *purchased* after 7/29.

and as @Nick above mentions, I was also told by reps over the phone that the $1000 annual limit will be applicable starting 2019. it’s still $2500 for this calendar year.

Keep in mind there’s some exclusions to the policy they’re adding as well:

For purchases made on or after July 29, 2018, program coverage won’t include consumables, tires, watches, firearms, or ammunition. You won’t be reimbursed if the lower priced item is found at a warehouse club where the merchant requires customers to pay a membership fee.  William Charles

This may seem obvious but I am reading conflicting info and even called and was told two stories. I saw on a forum that people were told the $2500 max begins 1/1/19 for existing accounts but the site doesn’t seem to say this. I called and the rep explained that I would still have up to $2500 but the max per item will be $200, etc. I’ve already claimed $1000, so will I be at $0 tomorrow? I think it was a mistake to lower the amount during the year, so I hope the 1/1/19 info is accurate.
