In previous years this worked on Visa gift cards as well. Hopefully we get an AmEx offer as well.

Purchased on Sunday and the coupon is available in my app now.
Similar story for me but not exactly. I purchased one gift card using one Lidl rewards account and another with another account. Back to back on Sunday. One of my accounts has the coupon while the other doesn’t.
Account that I purchased a One4All got the $20 off coupon the next day, but the account that I purchased a $500 visa did not get the coupon.
so it’s dependent on the type of gift card?
The terms only exclude Lidl and Google Play, and the ad does show VGC, so I’m not sure. There was a reply to the post about this deal on Slickdeals where someone said they called in because they didn’t get their coupon and was told there was a “system issue with certain transactions.”

no. they used to allow you to buy a $20 gift card to trigger the coupon, but they took that way a few years back

Warning. I had the same experience as Erin last year. Reposting for visibility:
“Btw if you buy something on sale and use 20$ coupon the total of your purchase changes, and the sale item becomes full price. So it’s good to buy something not on sale.”
Really shady tactics by Lidl. Makes this offer a lot worse than it seems.

I don’t know how it will apply with this coupon, but in November I had a $10 off $60 coupon and a free turkey when you spend $25 coupon. This time, it took the turkey off and “sale price coupons” (some items are just on sale, and some have the MyLidl coupon) then it took off the $10 off $60 last. So they may have finally fixed the way coupons work, but I agree it was very shady how it worked in the past.
It seems to depend on items “on sale” vs “app coupons”. With the app “coupons” I had the same experience as you – it applied the $20 to the initial price and then it applied the coupon after, so yeah got lower value. if it was on “sale” (available to everyone – even if you don’t use the app) then it worked fine.
the safe thing to do is split transactions and so $20+ with no sale items and then whatever else you want. Annoying, but if you know not the worst thing ever.
Terms of the coupon clearly state :”Coupon cannot be combined with myLidl Member Price discounts. In the event of a myLidl Member Price discount and a Coupon applied to the same item, only the higher offer will be accepted at checkout.”
I’ve had a Lidl 20% cashback offer (up to $10) on my Amex BCP for the last month or two, literally just got back from my first trip and used that offer. Check your cards, as it expires 12/31/24.
This is back again, $20 after spending $100 on giftcards, 12/11-12/17.
