“I’m not registered to vote and I don’t even use Lyft, but here’s my expert opinion on the political landscape: [insert two paragraphs about personal feelings and another complaining about how this promotion doesn’t target my city, state, or demographic].”

Lyft is not stopping anyone from voting. They are just targeting a certain part.

I won’t tell you who to vote for, but I do want to make a point about the importance of local elections vs presidential ones, something that is so important yet tends to get overshadowed.

Too many people spend 0 time researching their local politicians and fixate on the vote for president, then proceed to either vote randomly for their local legislature or simply voting down ballot.

The reality is, the mayor and legislature of your town has a much greater impact on YOUR life and YOUR community than the president. It’s the more important vote you will make, but people put no thought into it. I encourage everyone to do the down-ballot research when making their votes, democracy functions best that way.

Not to mention state ballot initiatives and referendums! Some awesome measures being voted on in my state.
