The Fine Print
- To be eligible for the Kasasa Cash Back Checking promotional offer you must be at least 18 years of age, and not have owned a Country Bank checking account within the last 180 days. Limited to one offer per person as identified by Social Security Number (SSN).
- Requirements to receive the Bonus offer:
- Open a Kasasa Cash Back Checking account in-person or online starting April 1st, 2023.
- At account opening, you must set up and maintain a direct deposit to your new Kasasa Cash Back Checking account totaling at least $500 per statement cycle, for three (3) consecutive months. Qualifying direct deposits are regular, periodic automated clearing house (ACH) credits, which may include payroll, salary, pension or government payments (such as Social Security). Payments through the Real-Time Payments (RTP) network, and payments through peer-to-peer networks such as PayPal, Zelle, Venmo or others do not qualify as direct deposits. Transfers from another Country Bank deposit account do not qualify.
- Bonus Offer Payout:
- Your account will be credited within 120 days of bonus requirements being met.
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
This account has no monthly fees to worry about
Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so unsure if there is an EATF.
Our Verdict
Better than the previous $150 checking bonus we’ve seen. We need to know if it’s a hard or soft pull.

Approved for a CD with Chex frozen as an existing customer. Clicking through the online portal looks like the same application as for a new customer, same 2k cc/debit funding. Takes a day or two to be approved.
From their FAQs
Do you open new accounts for out-of-state residents?
Existing Customers:
We open accounts for existing customers who reside in any state.
New Customers:
We open accounts for new customers who reside in any of the New England States which includes:
Maine
Vermont
New Hampshire
Massachusetts
Rhode Island
Connecticut
So it seems like if you were existing where you live doesn’t matter. But has anyone knew tried to apply from out of the NE area?
declined due to chex
Also notable from the terms, in regards to the debit transactions:
“The following activities do not count toward earning account rewards: ATM-processed transactions, transfers between accounts, debit card purchases processed by merchants and received by our bank as ATM transactions, non-retail payment transactions and purchases made with debit cards not issued by our institution.”
So no financial MCCs predictably (a la Cash App, lol). “Non-retail payment transactions” makes me a bit nervous; wonder if they’d try to include bill payments/utilities in that? Maybe it’s just a standard term, and I’m overthinking.
Be aware of the qualification cycle dates for each month:
https://www.countrybank.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Kasasa-Cash-and-Cash-Back-Qualification-Cycle.pdf
E.g. February 2025 cycle is 01/31-02/27 and March 2025 is 02/28-03/28.
Tried applying online but was rejected, went in branch and they were able to open it there. Had the option to fund up to $2000 with a credit card online but was not able to do that in branch.
Yes, same here. They wouldn’t resume the application that was already there, where I entered the credit card information. They pulled Chex again too.
service rep says it does not code as a cash advance to fund with a bank account.
Declined again today :/ . No joy from this bank for me. LOL/24 Chex.
Approved in branch. lol/24 Chex. No issues, no questions asked. Very nice banker.

You need 4 months of good behavior. Have you been doing it?
Yes. I did, Oct. Nov. Dec. and Jan.

I think I just messed up my 4th month and 2 debit transactions posted on March 1st…Do you know if we just need to get 4 months consecutively or does it have to be first 4 after signing up?
