Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
This account has no monthly fees to worry about.
Early Account Termination Fee
There is no early account termination fee, but keep in mind the bonus won’t post until 1/28/19.
Our Verdict
Previously they offered a bonus of only $100. This is an extra $100. Unfortunately it looks like you can no longer fund up to $2,000 with a credit card but I’ll happily be corrected on that. This will still definitely be added to the list of the best bank account bonuses though. Just keep in mind they are inquiry sensitive.
Big thanks to all the readers who sent this one in

please edit account was opened 10/16/18 and bonus paid 12/07/18. Please delete my previous statement.
Oct 16, 2018 Deposit +$80.00 80.00
Dec 7, 2018 Credit Memo +$200.00 872.00
My account was opened 10/1/18 and I received my $200 bonus on 12/07/18
Applied online and received paper denial letter in mail in about 3-5 business days.
Yes, look very sensitive to ChexSystems. Actually maybe too sensitive.
Just echo with other replies. It is the first time that I was denied explicitly due to Chexsystems record. I don’t have a clear number about how many checking I have opened in the past 2 years, maybe ~10 checking/24months? Also, I have never been denied in this way, which feel similar to credit card application. (curious if they have “reconsideration line” 🙂 )
The good side is that according to the denial letter, I can request a copy of free credit report from ChexSystems. Never received such a thing in the past. So did the request online and was told the report will be mailed to me in 5 business days (no electric version). The denial is not a big deal but actually I am more curious on what my ChexSystems report looks like since I have never seen it before.
Again, if you have applied quite a few checking accounts, this deal is not for you. However, if you want to get a free copy of Chexsystems report, go ahead. BTW, even without adverse action, you can request one ChexSystems copy for free every 12 months similar what you can get from the three credit bureaus.
Got my denial letter in the mail today. I’ve opened about 15 accounts in the past 12 months.
Seems to be very chex sensitive. Applied online and denied. 8-10 new accounts in last 12 months
Chex Sensitive. I applied online and received a denial letter in mail 3 days later, indicating the denial reason is about ChexSystem.
I have 3 new accounts in the past 12 months, 12 in past 24 months.
I feel that the expiration date should be listed as 10/15/2018 since in the fine print it says… “To receive $200 cash incentive, customer must open an Eastern Bank consumer checking account between 9/11/2018 and 10/15/2018”.
Now the fine print date is subject to change but would not be as misleading as no expiration date listed. Initially, I was thinking of maybe opening an account in December but then I read the fine print…
Missed that, I’ve added it to the post now.
Bonus posts 1/28/19. Yikes. That’s like, next year.
Does pull Chex Systems. Sensitive. Denied in branch.
+1 I applied online and was denied due to chexsystem. Probably 12 new bank accounts in last 12 months.
How many chex inquiries did you have in the last 12 months? Thanks for the datapoint
How many in the last 12/24 months?
