Awhile ago Chuck did a review on Inbox Dollar which is a shopping portal hybrid site (they offer a bunch of other stuff as well). The reason we were interested in this particular portal is that they are offering 5% cash back on eBay purchases (including gift card purchases). Inbox Dollar has a $30 minimum payout and we weren’t sure how long the 5% offer was going to last, so Chuck was somewhat hesitant to recommend it.
Reader, Nobody left this comment on that original post:
Data point: Topcashback will match the 5% cashback in Inboxdollars.
Purchased several gift cards on recent ebay deals (paid $270 in total) and submitted claim yesterday. Today the cashbacks were increased to a total amount of $13.5, which is 5%.
A lot of the shopping portals offer highest cash back guarantees (I’d recommend reading this post which talks about each sites policy in detail). With some portals, you can also get a match with Giving Assistant and their 5% back with Amazon on eligible categories (you won’t be able to get a match for a category not offered by the portal). Almost all of the sites that offer this matching actually give you some type of bonus (e.g Topcashback is 101% of the other rate, Shopathome is 110% and BeFrugal is 125%) so it’s actually possible to do better than 5% back with eBay.
I know some of you don’t like managing a lot of different portals and this is one way around it. It should also make any previous deals/purchases you’ve made more profitable/cheaper.
Update 9/22: Topcashback is no longer matching these claims, read more details in this post.
I submitted 5 transactions and 2 were approved. Declined ones were over 7 days old.
I filed a claim for topcashback and they declined it. They stated they aren’t matching inboxdollars.
What reason did they give? I’ve been successful with mine…
May I know whether you purchased GCs for the transactions that you got matched? Did you state that they were GCs? Or something else?
Thank you!
I usally have no problems with topcash, or ebates. But I did 3 seperate transactions on inboxdollar and still haven’t seen any confirmation. What sort of time frame is typical for them?
+1 Calvin
Wouldn’t we need to know the effective date of the 5% Inbox Dollar CB to determine the oldest start date of transactions for which could file the TCB claims?
Nice post!
As you have pointed out in a different post, Shop at Home will only match certain other sites and inbox dollar is not on that list so you can’t use them to match the 5% for eBay purchases.
Great post and great to know this! Here is the info regarding this at BeFrugal.com. As always, there are limitations:
BeFrugal.com Best Cash Back Rate Guarantee
If you make a cash back eligible purchase through BeFrugal.com, and find a Cash Back rate on another Cash Back rewards site that is higher than the rate offered on BeFrugal.com, we will match 125% of the higher Cash Back rate.
Eligibility Requirements:
1. Eligible stores only (only stores that have the “Guaranteed Best Cash Back” message on their store page of BeFrugal.com are eligible.)
2. You must have made a Cash Back eligible purchase through BeFrugal.com.
3. Cash Back Rate Guarantee does not apply to rates offered by paid membership loyalty sites or credit card rewards programs.
4. Limit one per store per member.
5. Maximum credit of $25 per transaction.
6. Submit your claim within 24 hours of purchase and include the following:
Order receipt
Store name
Specific link to competitor with higher Cash Back rate
Competitor Cash Back rate offered (in $ or %)
I can also confirm that TCB matches the 5%. But I don’t see where it says that they offer 101%. Mind posting the link?
How far back can I match to the 5% on Index Dollar? Would it work for a purchase made three weeks ago?
Does ebates match other competitors?
