Our Verdict
Looks like the status is good for a year. Marriott to Aeroplan is definitely more attractive than Aeroplan to Marriott.

Hm might actually be worth getting Marriott titanium now
already get United Silver through Titanium so not a ton of incremental benefits but good shout!
Anyone else getting the error message: “The Aeroplan® account is invalid. [Error code: P4029]”?
I’m also getting the same error
Typically, when I’m on an Air Canada flight I’ve booked a biz class seat with miles, but this status comes in handy with Star Alliance airlines AND partner airlines.
I have Silver status with United via the Marriott status partnership. I had no clue that United had a partnership – not Star Alliance related – with AirLink so it was a surprise when I was upgraded to first class on an inter-Africa flight.
woot Woot WOOT!
IMO, Airlink is one of the best regional airlines in the world. Even for a short 1-2 hour flight, they often provide a delicious meal. On a flight to Windhoek, they even offered ostrich as an option. Best yet, nearly all their flights do not have middle seats, aisles and windows only.
I agree. I’ve flown them multiple times and each time has been a good experience. Qatar Airways acquired a 25% stake in them this past August. I would not be surprised if Airlink is a Oneworld member within the next year or two. I also expect them to maintain a high level of service too.
I do have to note that SaFair is a good option for flights within South Africa.
Immediate status upgraded on Air Canada for me after signing in from the link.
Aside from getting status benefits on all Star Alliance member airlines, many of the below listed non-Star Alliance airline partners of Air Canada will recognize your Air Canada status giving you benefits on their airline.
If you are like me and book economy regional flights in parts of the world where you don’t have big international carrier options, perks via Air Canada status on smaller/regional airlines are valuable (upgrades, no baggage fee, early boarding, etc). Some big player airlines also are partners in the below list too.

Air Creebec
Air Dolomiti
Air Mauritius
Air Serbia
Azul Brazilian Airlines
Bamboo Airways

Didn’t realize Marriott & UA MileagePlus had partnership! However, I don’t see where having Marriott “Gold Elite” (for those of us lower echelon) provides anything at United tho(?) i.e, the reverse direction…If anyone has any tips please share.
Ambassador Elite and Titanium Elite members receive complimentary United MileagePlus Premier Silver status.
Lower Marriott status get nothing.
Transferring aeroplan points to Marriott 1:1 feels like highway robbery
Worked easy for me too!
Wish they included us peasants with Platinum status through the Amex card.. Bonvoy’d again!
If they did that, then everyone would have status, meaning no one would.
Thanks! Reflected instantly. No Canadian travel plans but good to have I guess
Star alliance elite status
That was easy. Showed up in my Aeroplan account immediately. Have to explore the perks more but off the bat, 2 complimentary checked bags, some upgrade credits and a couple of lounge passes. Good thru end of 2025.
How do you access the lounge passes?
Where do you make your selection for the “select benefits”? I clicked a link but it just redirected me to my account summary.
