Marriott: Category 8 Properties Will Continue To Cost Category 7 Prices Until March 2019

I’m not sure if this has always been there, or if it’s new (or even if somebody else noticed it) but reddit user nickohrn has pointed out that Marriott category 8 properties will continue to be bookable at category 7 prices until March 2019. Previously I always thought it said ‘in 2019’ and just naturally assumed it would be in January.

could I book the rooms first and then change the dates some time later (without paying more points), let’s say the end of 2020?

Do we know if this is confirmed? On this page: https://members.marriott.com/redeem/ it says the following:

“Hotels slated to be in Category 8 will be placed temporarily in Category 7, until Category 8 is introduced. So if you are interested in a future Category 8 hotel, you have the opportunity to save 25,000 points per night by booking before 2019.”

Just booked 2, 7 night Cat 5 rooms in Paris with two old cat 7 certificates. Afterwards booked 2, 3 night cat 5 rooms in Rome with points and one cat 5 certificate. We wanted to get these booked before peak pricing went into effect for next year. We booked for June which will obviously be peak times

Interesting, if you’re looking for value and don’t mind spending some points, the Gritti Palace in Venice is running around €1300.00/nt for June dates and is still cat 7. We went with a boutique hotel as that place seems out of my league anyways.

Any Category 8s in Tennessee worth it?

I am curious to see if “until March” will really mean “up to and including March”, or if it will be “before March 1st”. I have a trip in March 2020 that I’d like to book before the Cat8 prices begin.

They did delay the SPG merger for two weeks, maybe they will push this into March.

Wow. I hope they informed their IT and phone representatives to avoid errors and confusion.

Are there any Cat 8 hotels in Hawaii, or was it just the St Regis Kauai which isn’t under Marriott anymore.

I don’t know sorry. I don’t even bother with Marriott since those Hawaii properties that used to cost only 40k now cost 50-60k. I don’t even have enough points to book more than two night staycation

Curious if this means peak/off-peak will show up in March as well, or if they will go live in January?

was always supposed to go until february, so either they extended it, or they are letting you book ‘through’ february
