Marriott Removing Transfer Bonuses For American AAdvantage, Delta SkyMiles & Avianca LifeMiles

Marriott currently offers 5,000 bonus miles when you transfer 60,000 Marriott points to airline miles (rate is normally 20,000 but becomes 25,000 with this transfer bonus). Marriott has announced that effective October 31, 2022 this 5,000 mile bonus will be removing for the following airlines: American AAdvantage, Delta SkyMiles, or Avianca LifeMiles.

Obviously this is a negative change and sad to see.

What is the best redemption option for Marriott? Thinking to transfer before options become crap.

I am wondering if the changes were already made. I attempted to transfer 60K Marriott points to American Airline but it shows only 20K miles for 60K Marriott points.

That’s what it shows on the Marriott site for all airlines, but the bonus did work for AA (Oct 24), it shows up in AA 2 days later.

5k bonus points did show awarded/transferred today on Marriott site for a transfer I initiated yesterday 10/30, not showing in airline loyalty account yet.

It is probably just the first leg in scrapping (Bonvoying) the program entirely.

Also no excise tax for them to pay on transfers to foreign airlines unlike domestic airlines.

Told ya! How many times have you been Bonvoyed?? Glad I already dump Marriott and they should go bankrupt asap. Time to bring legacy SPG back.

Curious that one airline from each major alliance (One World, Skyteam, Star Alliance) will lose the extra 5k benefit. I wonder what’s going on behind the scenes.

Now, it’s only a matter of time before this devaluation hits the other options where the herd will now be moving to.

Very disappointing, to say the least!

or…. they’re trying to steer you toward their preferred partner United.

It’s really just this I’m sure. United will keep the preferred status

Makes a lot of sense it’s to push people to united, as Delta miles were never that valuable or tempting of a transfer partner to begin with

This is not such a great perk by itself but when combined with bonus points during Amex MR transfer promotions it could be somewhat useful. I was able to get 1.5cents/MR with first class tickets from Hawaii for the entire family with this. It was a great help to reduce the pain of a redeye flight. Good thing I have only 30k Marriott points left.
