Marriott has announced that all guests will be required to wear facemasks worldwide starting July 27th, 2020 (staff were already required to wear masks). Facemasks will be required for indoor public spaces. Marriott cites the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA)’s Safe Stay Guest Checklist as part of the reason for this decision. It would be surprising if other hotel chains didn’t institute similar policies.
So wear it off your chin and if you’re confronted just look busy trying to fix it like it was falling off that shuts up both sides.
Cause that isn’t absurd at all?
You guys do realize right now is July, 2020 huh?
Yes thank you, deaths trends down in many states, lots of testing improvements. US is testing higher than almost every EU country. Yes, far better than April now that it’s July thank you for the reminder.
Deaths are a lagging indicator by about 2-3 weeks. Cases are rising in nearly 80% of states with no leveling off in sight and testing is still not at the scale we need, with national supply shortages. Some areas have turnaround at between 7-10 days. We’re SIX MONTHS into this thing. How is this acceptable? But sure, stick your head in the sand and scream about wearing masks and tell yourself this is “under control.”
Well we’re far exceededing all EU countries per capita in literally every metric, so where would you like us to be?
Deaths lag by 2 or 3 weeks, everyone said that 2 or 3 weeks ago…. still waiting for the massive spike.
Exactly.
You speak like Kayleigh McEnany
so we’re ok just because you say our metrics are better off than other countries? you sound brainwashed
I didn’t realize we had gotten to the point where health status is measured by “not dead”.
I didn’t realize we had gotten to the point where health stats for number of cases of a virus with a declining death rate was justification to bankrupt small businesses in America by continuously closing and re opening them.
I’m all for it. Good to see.
I’m all for travel and wearing a mask if I need to talk to someone but at least Marriott has the balls to say something. I was at the Avid by IHG and all the young looking professionals weren’t not wearing it. In Milwaukee Hyatt Place, I saw like no one (including front desk) except a white guy and his parents wear. I wonder why young and minorities are surprised they have it
Maybe that lets you know your not in the majority? Jesus maybe YOU shouldn’t be the one travelling. Your whole comment is laughable proof of everything I “troll” about.
Did YOU have the balls to tell them, yeah that’s what I thought.
You mean the people that have been working through the pandemic?
Like me?
Won’t stay at Marriott if required wear mask
Good. Safer for the rest of us now.
Steven, I stand in support of your decision. If someone else wishes to choke on their own exhaust, I am fine with that as well. Freedom is about respecting the choices of everyone.
Absolutely haha
except when those choices start infringing on the rights, the health, the very survival of “everyone” else.
Survival LOL, talk about dramatic. I had someone cut me off at a high rate of speed on the way to work, they were also infringing my right to survive. I got over it.
Totally agree. It’s better to choke on my own exhaust than somebody else’s virus.
Months late, but better than never
How? The experts said they didn’t work two months ago. You are all the parrots of the “experts”.
A) The experts initially said that to reduce public demand for face masks, thus leaving the current supply available for essential employees (since the govt didn’t initiate any impetus to increase supply)
And
B) those experts have (mostly) since said that their initial recommendation to not wear face masks were ill-advised/incorrect
Well said Doc Frog…. Yet one quibble: the world class medical “experts” in south korea (as well as New Zealand, etc.)…. at the very beginning…. counseled facemasks for all their citizens…. (as you may know, youtubes are available of a fascinating half hour translated interview with them.) The S. Koreans had to deal with far less “cultural” resistance, as they’d been through more recent pandemics….. (SARS, etc.) plus, the S. Koreans had sufficient quality supply of masks and protective gear early on, well stockpiled and ready to deploy….. (sure, they had outbreaks too, esp. with a few rogue church cults…. but what little they had was (relative to the US) quickly “contained” via a national will, contact tracing, and policy…. to not let the virus win…. ) There, it didn’t get politicized; they stayed unified….. In America, we’re crippled, divided and all the more vulnerable.
Yep, go move to South Korea then!
It’s almost like expert opinions can change when they have more information available and more is known. Crazy!
You guys have excuses for everything lmao
Silly science, providing facts and allowing us to make rational adjustments as more data is provided. Sigh – if only people could catch rational thinking as easily as COVID, you wouldn’t be here spouting uneducated nonsense in every comment reply.
Today your leader said wearing masks is “patriotic”. So follow him if you don’t believe in experts and science. Either way, mask up!
1 He’s our president.
2 Whoever says it I debate, I’m not a blind partisan, but your comment proves you are.
3 Anytime someone wants to enact laws the correct way through Congress not executive order, that’d be fantastic.
You won’t listen to scientist or experts. You won’t listen to democratic leaders. You won’t listen to republican leaders including Trump. You are a self proclaimed expert on coronovirus and all scientist and experts and politicians are wrong. People like you are the reason mask rules must be made and enforced.
The number of contradictory things in this comment is priceless.
This admin is known for being incompetent anyway. In Feb, our surgenon general said masks are useless and make you silly. Guess what, same guy in April encouraged everyone to use your old t-shirt for a home-made mask.
Now down to the bottom, if masks doesn’t work, why doctors wear them?
This is literally the most biases and clipped comment I’ve seen in a long time. Fauci and every other “expert” said the same stuff as the surgeon general…
Doctors wear masks because their working on open wounds and people that are sick, and known to be sick or immune compromised. This is not the case in every day life, and never has been, like how is this an argument? Should we have always been wearing masks? I sure as heck have gotten the flu from people less than 6ft away and gotten very ill before this.
The US has better per capita metrics then basically the entire EU and he’s incompetent. Ok. Thanks for repeating stuff that is not factually accurate.
I do listen to science, I don’t think you do.
I’m guessing that enforcement will only be limited to strongly worded requests from hotel staff?
Because otherwise my constitutional rights to infect everyone would be blah blah blah.
Is that your passive aggressive way of admitting people can commit civil disobedience to something. I’m sorry people have free will in America lol, it applies to all groups of thought.
You’re totally off-base if you think not wearing a mask is a legitimate form of civil disobedience.
Don’t bother, you can’t reason with stupid.
I’d disagree with you on other forms I’ve observed recently but hey, at least I don’t double down to calling people stupid.
And Andrew, I hate to break it to you, but every form of civil disobedience by nature has those who disagree.
I fill my forms out very carefully. Very, very carefully.
Form has 11 definitions just under noun category?
11 huh? I’ll take your word for it. Stupid needs to have one more added while you’re in there.
Troll better. Be better.
There’s literally a thing called a dictionary that even a redneck like me can find.
Would you object if those around you decided to start driving drunk as a form of “civil disobedience”?
Literally all your doing is taking my objection, ignoring discussing it, and making another objection that has zero similarity. Not wearing a mask doesn’t impair you, and doesn’t have actual proof of hurting anyone.
You’re right, there is zero similarity. Drunk driving kills about 10,000 per year in the US. COVID-19 has killed over 14 times that in less than half the time.
And masks are the reason? Can you prove that?
Masks significantly reduce the spread of COVID-19, along with other measures including social distancing and disinfecting. From an analysis of 115 scientific studies on COVID-19:
https://pws.byu.edu/covid-19-and-masks
“Researchers from hospitals, universities, the private sector, and government agencies have concluded that masks could be one of the most powerful and cost-effective tools to stop COVID-19 and accelerate the economic recovery.”
“Masks prevent infected people from spreading the virus to others by trapping the respiratory droplets (tiny moisture particles) that are produced when we cough, speak, and breathe. Cloth masks can stop 90% or more of the dispersal of droplets carrying the virus. There is some evidence that cloth masks also protect the wearer from infection, though this is less certain.”
“Infected individuals are most contagious during the day before first symptoms and in the few days after onset, meaning that people who feel completely healthy can spread the virus to loved ones and strangers. Up to one in three COVID-19 carriers show no symptoms at all (asymptomatic), though they can still spread the virus. It is estimated that half of all transmissions occur from individuals not showing symptoms.”
Aside from very rare exceptions laid out in the article, anyone who refuses to wear a mask is a giant selfish baby. It’s the tiniest inconvenience and literally the least you can do for your fellow human. Mask wearing along with proper social distancing could have helped us truly reopen and return to normal by now like many other countries, rather than spiraling further out of control.
You do realize most countries don’t wear masks either right?
“You’re”
you are a troll and a bad one at that. go away.
Why so you can keep an echo chamber, nah. This blog is great, but echo chamber comments all over these days are funny to me.
Duh.
Duh masks don’t make sense, exactly.
This is a reasonable requirement. I hope more and more businesses impose this rule (masks in public places).
I don’t think it’s a reasonable requirement but hey we live in the world of mob rule.
That is an illegal thought.
Not heeding to the senseless fussing of a fringe minority is hardly mob rule; no policy is going to be supported in its entirety by everyone it covers.
Did CNN tell you this is a fringe, cause it’s not. Don’t go on any road trips anytime soon or you’ll find out it’s not.
It’s great that businesses can set their own rules is it not? Don’t like it? Well it’s your right to spend your money elsewhere too. Call it what you want, but it’s American as it gets.
I mean sure, of course you can literally just walk in without one too. More like virtue signaling, like you just did.
Is it virtue signaling if I say STFU, dummy? I think that’s what Chris was saying, but he was too polite for you to understand.
Nah that can’t be virtue signaling by nature. It just shows you don’t have the debate skills to use actual words above a grade school level.
This isn’t mob rule; Marriott is exercising their right as property owners to implement this requirement, following the suggestion of most infectious disease experts. There’s substantial evidence that mask mandates reduce the spread of coronavirus, with only the slightest inconvenience, so any responsible business might come to this conclusion, regardless of what any angry mobs want.
I wish people could spend this much time parroting the same debated points as facts, as they could be fixing real world problems or volunteering!
1. This is a real-world issue.
2. I do volunteer. Many of us do.
That is all.
Thank you for your service.
You’re welcome 😉
I take it you’re not a fan of democracy?
We live in a republic, so not sure what the democracy comment suggests. If it was a democracy why didn’t I get a vote for this?
