As of about two weeks ago, Mastercard gift cards no longer work at Walmart to process them as debit cards. This is relevant for things like loading Bluebird/Serve and buying money orders. Keep this in mind for the various Mastercard gift card deals that come periodically.Â

Tried to do $95 swipe for MCGC to load BB at WM yesterday by changing to credit, no go. Said ‘Tender not allowed”
The title should be “Mastercard Gift Cards No Longer Process at Walmart as Credit” for loading Bluebird/Serve. It was always working as credit at regular terminal and MC. For MO purchase, the trick was to change the payment type to debit. It still works, but with $99 limit. The same $99 apply for loading BB if you can change payment type to debit at MC.

WM’s official policy “OP-46” is to “decline to process the transaction.” However, most/all WMMC POS/terminals are coded to accept GCM Visa & MCGCs (recognizable as issued by Meta or Sun and distributed by BHN) for totals of $99 or less and Vanilla Visa & MCGCs (recognizable as issued by Bancorp and distributed by InComm or ITC) for totals of $49.99 or less.
Hope Mastercard understands this will CRUSH their sales. These companies will learn when consumers shift their spending to VISA.

Noooo. Just bought $1000 worth of MC, from staples deal 2 weeks ago. Now stuck with them for regular spend unless someone knows of a way to do it.
Didn’t buy them before and had stuck to VGC’s, bought them 1st time 2 weeks ago in recent Staples no fee deal, now STUCK….
I bought MB VGC with MB MCGC that I was stuck with due to Tender Not Allowed issue that started on 4/30. Buy MO at local grocery stores. Or it seems change of payment to debit works with MCGC for loading or MO purchase with $99 limit.
I’ve had no luck with the ic250 & ic350 POS card readers in my area, which sadly are the most common ones. But the veriphone card readers still let me change the payment method and load my BB.
