Our Verdict
They sell in denominations of $200, so this is a nice profitable deal if you use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases (not all Meijer code as a grocery store). Limit of one is annoying and you can only really get around that with multiple mperks accounts (e.g partners). They also have a $5 off $50+ deal on some third party gift cards that might be worth considering if you’re heading instore anyway.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to cash out the gift card? I was able to add Visa GC that I got from test driving new cars at Hyundai to my Venmo and cashing it out, but it seems that I am not able to do that anymore. Thank you!
My question is how does someone know if their Meijer codes as grocery?
Try it out and see. Every one I’ve ever visited in the mid-michigan area has coded grocery for amex and Visa.
AmEx define Meijer under Merchandise & Supplies – Groceries category. In past AmEx Blue had earned 3% or 6% cash reward.
Visa defined Meijer under GROCERY STORES / SUPERMARKETS / BAKERIES category.

Giant Eagle has the same promotion starting today. Currently you also earn $0.10 off a gallon of gas (up to 30 gallons) for every $50 gift card purchase.
Where are you seeing that Giant Eagle has the same promotion. I am in CLE and not anywhere close to a Meijers(yet),
I see it. Last page of weekly ad. good until 4/4
It can be found in the weekly store ad on the back page in the bottom right corner. Starts today (3/29) and goes to next Wednesday
I just got US Altitude reserve card. If I use Meijer deal with mobile wallet, will I get shut down for purchasing GC with Altitude card? Will I be OK MS Altitude card with simon mall?
Can we purchase this visa gift card with meijer gift card?
Yes, you can–I do it every time these deals come up, and I buy the Meijer gift cards on sale on eBay.
Also, I’m pretty sure the current $5 off $50+ deal excludes Mastercard and Visa gift cards, DOC–they always have in the past (haven’t checked the current deal’s terms to be sure).
Yes you can. I added a $200 Visa card with a few groceries and used a $100 Meijer gift card and the rest with Apple Pay/Freedom card to get 5% off.
Publix currently has a similar deal. $10 off $150 or more Mastercard GC. Must use a digital coupon. Clip it online. Expires 4/7/18.
Thanks Doc! I read through a few of the prior threads, but was unclear on this. I have a CIti card which is 2% back on everything, and the Amex blue which is 3% back on grocery. I saw my last purchase (on my ciit) for a visa gift card coded as “Merchandise-grocery/supermarket”. Does this mean my amex will do the same and give me back the 3%? I saw in my Amex blue TOC that gift cards and cash equivalents were excluded from the 3%. Any data points?
I can’t speak from experience, but based on other comments I’ve read on this site, I believe Amex gets Level 3 data for the purchase and would thus know you bought gift cards, so you wouldn’t earn the 3%.
Just did this. Was able to buy a $150 visa with the $20 to $200 card. A $6.95 activation fee and the $10 was taken of immediately for a price of $146.95. Paired with the 6% blue cash card made this a nice little money maker. Thanks!
The Blue cash card is only 4.4%, not 6%. This is a common mistake by people, as you have to subtract the cards annual fee from the amount you are making back.
If AF waived first year, then u don’t.
…if you don’t factor in amex offers, which I’m sure most here (like me) more than make up the annual fee by utilizing
Well, then we should write it is 20% off or 30% off. The Amex offers you can get on no fee cards, so why would count it towards the % off. And even if you get it waived for the first year, that would only make it 6% for the first year, not subsequent years. The % off a credit card earns should always take the anuual fee into account.
Sigh….. and then there’s those of use who “strategically” product changed up AND got a $250 bonus to do so….. (and then a/f unexpectedly was pro-rated…) Not keeping it for another a/f/ anyway…. so gee, we should “always” consider the full picture…. I should now calculate the benefits of the extra $250, minus the pro-rated a/f/ — and I’ll then know how much, much MORE than 6% I’ve been getting…. per dollar spent at Kroger & Martin’s. (oh, but wait, there’s more…. all that free/discounted gas, plus free cell minutes.)…… Remember all that (and more) next time you’re in the mood to school the masses about our “common mistakes.” *tic 😉
Thanks escot. My sentiments exactly, I didn’t want to get into a trolling war so I wasn’t going to respond at all, but I agree with you. People can account for things however they want for determining how much value they get from a card. I don’t agree with saying others are wrong for how they figure out what value a card brings them. It’s not the same for everyone. Bottom line, BCP is 6% cashback at grocery stores up to 6k spend (not 4.4%), but also has an annual fee as well as amex offers for primary card holders and AU cards – value that however you want to.
Just very simple, every person gets 6% back, every person pays an annual fee. All the other things change per person, whether you got a bonus the first year, or you decide to keep it for an extra year, or whatever. But if it makes you feel good to tell yourself that it is 6%, you go for it.
Put another way, the extra money you earn on the paid blue versus the free one is $85 each year, or 1.4% extra.
To me the $95 is just the cost of doing business. Bottom line is it was a money maker no matter how you look at it.
Thanks DOC! Last week I maxed out the $5 off $50 gc deal (10x), so it’ll be interesting to see if I get my $50 off when I buy a visa gc. FWIW, Meijer takes android pay/apple pay/Samsung pay, so if anyone’s not maxed out their Chase Freedom quarterly bonus, you can get 5% cash back on top of the $10 off.
