Avoiding Fees
M Checking $6 Monthly Fee
M Checking has a monthly fee of $6, this is waived if you have direct deposits totaling $250 or more per month or a minimum balance of $1,000.
M+ Checking $10 Monthly Fee
M+ Checking has a monthly fee of $10, this is waived if maintain a minimum daily balance of $1,500
Savings Accounts
The easiest saving account to keep fee free is the Performance Savings, the iSave Savings Program does not qualify for this bonus.
The performance savings account comes with a monthly fee of $3 which is waived as long as you have a balance of $250 or more.
Our Verdict
Pretty good bonus, monthly fees aren’t too hard to waive, shame about the small footprint on the offer though. They have offered bonuses of $100 and $200 in the past with the same requirements, so this is somewhere in the middle.  I’d recommend people sign up for this offer if they live within the footprint. As it stands we haven’t added it to our recommend bonus page, but it has been added to our master list of all banking account bonuses.
Hat tip to reader Chris
Signed up for the promotion today. The banker stated there were 4 options which could trigger bonus by only 2 have to be met.
The requirements are the three that’s listed above and the 4th is to sign up and get approved for their credit card.
MidFirst seems to run this promotion every few months. I have received two mailers on it this year. I signed up last month, and it was not a hard pull for me. I opened a savings account, and I did an Ally $500 transfer to the M Checking account and it triggered the reward.
Could you fund with a credit card?
Do you have the link from the current promo?
The current promo link is https://www.midfirst.com/tulsa150. It appears that link can only be viewed if you are in the region though, so you may need to try to VPN to see it. It says it runs until August 31, 2016, but this is the third or fourth extension of it that I have seen. I talked to a MidFirst banker about this, and he told me that Bank of Oklahoma currently dominates the Tulsa market and MidFirst is trying to gain market share. So while it is never guaranteed, this promo could keep being renewed until they feel they have enough customers. Also, this is the first time they have had a real splash page for the promo; before they only sent mailed flyers.
The account has to be opened in-branch. The account opening was not a hard pull for me. I do not know how to check soft pulls, but the banker made no mention of any sort of credit check.
While I did not explicitly ask to fund the account with a credit card, the banker told me I needed to deposit $100 in cash to open an account for it to qualify in the promo. I did not have that much cash on me, and I had to use their ATM to get it out (thanks to Ally for ATM refunds, though the banker also offered to pay me back for the ATM fee himself).
As I said, a transfer from Ally of $500 to my M Checking account triggered the bonus after I had opened a Performance Savings account alongside the checking account, since two of four options are required for the bonus. Their language says a “recurring” direct deposit is required, so I do not know yet if they will clawback the bonus if I don’t make another transfer next month.
As an additional data point, one of my /r/churning buddies in OKC had a meeting with one of the bankers there and got approval to deposit large amounts of MOs after he explained his reason for doing so (MS). I have not tried that here, but the bankers are all very friendly and personable, so it may be a good bank for MS activity after establishing a relationship with them.
Thanks for the data points
Hello Matt.
Are you able to share the particular branch or the name of the banker?
The branch I opened my account at, or the branch my buddy deposits MOs at?
I opened my account at the branch at 91st and Yale in Tulsa with Chad Hilsheimer. My buddy is in OKC and talked to a female bank manager about it, but I do not know the specifics.
will open one if the bank is MS friendly
Thanks Matt!
