Milestone Gold Credit Card Review – An Honest Review Of A Bad Card

The Milestone Gold credit card (we haven’t linked to it on purpose) is one of the sub-prime credit cards that has an affiliate link, we don’t use those links for credit cards so I thought I’d do an honest review of this card so people don’t get suckered into signing up for it.

Card Basics

  • Card allows you to see if you’re pre-qualified before applying
  • Annual fee on your credit worthiness:
    • $35 annual fee
    • $59 annual fee
    • $75 annual fee first year then $99 annual fee thereafter
  • Choose card design for free
  • APR of 23.90%
  • No rewards program
  • Issued by Genesis Bankcard Services, Inc

Our Verdict

Honestly this card isn’t as bad as some other cards, for example:

That being said, that’s a pretty low bar to jump over. This card is still awful, why pay an annual fee of up to $99 for a card with no real benefits (it does come with Mastercard Gold benefits) and no rewards program. People with bad credit always think they have no options, but that is simply not the case. Here are some options for example:

This card is HORRIBLE. I have fair to good credit with 6 total and a car payment that’s never been late. A FICO of 706 and THIS dumb card company doesn’t do increases and cant give you a explanation why? I did away with this JOKE of a card a year ago. Do NOT accept this card. There are better out there.

I paid off my milestone credit card and then it expired. They sent out a new card ,but I did not activate it. Can they still charge me an annual fee? Do I need to take further steps to cancel card other than letter expiration date go out when paid in full and not renewing?

I made the mistake of getting a Milestone card after coming out of bankruptcy. I was given a $300 limit with a $99 annual fee. After 2 years I called and asked for a credit limit increase and was told they do not give increases. I cancelled the card immediately before they could charge another annual fee. The card was good as it improved my credit score and other “reputable” cards offered me no annual fee and $1500 or more starting credit limit. With Milestone, I paid my balance off every month so not to incur the large interest rate. I continue to do that with my other cards.

The worst thing about Milestone is that, in addition to a low limit of $300, they don’t give increases ever, even with an excellent payment history. This is stated on their website after you accept the card and sign up for online access. Nowhere in their paper documents or their application do they disclose this!
I can’t wait til my balance is paid in full so I can cancel, especially considering their $99 annual fee along with no increases.

I agree Barbj. I have had a Milestone card for over a year now (fortunately at the $35 annual fee), but I didn’t know I could never get an increase. DoC, how long should we keep something like this if we can never get a CL increase?

I have had this card for way over a year, and still haven’t gotten an increase. Never late. Well I was a victim of the Irma storm and I call them ,like I did with all my credit cards to ask for more time to pay my monthly bill also a waiver on the fee. They just well to say SUCK it up and pay with a giving date. No waiver on LATE FEE! I have been under a lot of stress and distress being in this storm. I will pay them off, leave with good standing. I would not recommend this card to anyone. Get rid of it! You will get a better one. Peace!

These reviews are a great service to the public. You’ve got a search rank score high enough that these will be read, and they will take money away from these vultures. Keep it up!

Doc, thanks for this post — and the links to your past posts to help out those with bad or no credit to get started. Very useful and I’ll pass along to some younger relatives who need to know they don’t have to take the worst, bad deal/offer out there from the sharks.. (in this case, your service is especially well named….) hope you’ll continue to help in these realms.
