Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
Minnwest classic has a $2.00 monthly service charge; waived if enrolled in Online Statements
Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so unsure if there is an EATF.
Our Verdict
Looks to be working out of state. I suspect this bonus will end quickly or the requirements for opening will be tighten or accounts will be closed. Up to you if you think that’s worth the risk or not.

This bank canceled my application. Then I tried to dispute the chex pull since canceled application seemed a legit reason for dispute, but they denied the request.
What was the reason that you provided to ChexSystems to remove the inquiry?
What was MinnWest’s response to the dispute and who from MinnWest responded? Last time P2 disputed an inquiry the VP of new accounts responded and had to add their direct phone number, if P2 wanted to followup with her.
I don’t know that MinnWest could continue to object to the dispute if there is a legitimate reason for disputing the inquiry. Not evaluating an application in good faith seems to be a legitimate reason.
These bastards suck, applied in branch and was approved initially then later the same day they called me saying ‘We actually can’t approve you and the accounts are not opened due to Chex inquiries’.
I am assuming you are lol/24?
I am doing just debit card purchases. so much easier than trying to determine which DD will work.
Hope this will work.
Same here. Ten Amazon refills should do the trick.
The offer requires “direct deposits totaling $1000 OR complete 20 debit card transactions”.
Yup, I did 20. Just a typo.
Went in today to apply for the checking and savings promo, the guy didnt ask me about my chex even tho there was i sign on his desk that says that they check for chex… (I’m lol/24)
So they arent chex sensitive in branch for this promo for those in the area wondering.
On 12/03, I noticed I had not received my debit card, so I sent an SM in online banking. On 12/04, they responded it’s been ordered but to expect delays.
“It may take a little longer to arrive due to the Holiday season and it coming USPS.“
Debit card arrived yesterday, 12/14… so obviously it got skipped at account opening (11/17). Activated & PIN set via phone, no issue.
Anyone use their debit card yet? My utility bill transactions are showing ### DDA company name ###
Anyone open in branch for this bonus? Are they chex sensitive?
Several of the DoC heavy hitters like myself got approved online, so I doubt they would increase the Chex scrutiny in branch. Usually it’s the other way around. MikeSauce
Thanks for the reply, i guess ill give it a go and be the dp.
Still can’t access my online account, but the money shows up on the phone system and I received/successfully activated my debit card. I’ll probably have to call at some point to get access to the online system soon, but I’m trying to raise as little noise as humanly possible.
If I’m not mistaken from these terms (https://web.archive.org/web/20241118044628/https://www.minnwestbank.com/checkingbonus-0), there is no minimum amount for the debit card transactions, correct? 20 bananas are okay?
Also, the minimum opening deposit for the Thrift Savings is $50, correct?
Yes, it doesn’t specify any minimum or qualifying purchase so I assume anything can work.
Yes $50 min for thrift savings
Not just for the opening deposit, $50 average daily balance is required to avoid a $5 monthly fee for the Thrift Savings.
Tried to do DD into the account and it is not showing. Crazy bank
My transfers from Fidelity are so far showing up fine, and my initial funding is now available. I missed out on real DD last week since I didn’t know if the account was frozen or not but should hit this coming week. Doesn’t seem like you can determine if a transfer qualifies as DD within the app (they all just say “credit”) but perhaps once a real statement is generated we will be able to tell.
I finally got it. I will try to do 20 purchases at Aldi instead of DD since it said one OR another should satisfy the bonus for checking part. I will keep my saving $50 for 90 days
