MoviePass: “There Are No More Screenings…” Message & Possible Work Around

If you’ve tried to use MoviePass in the last few days, chances are you’ve been presented with an error message saying:

  • There are no more screenings at this theater today…
  • Premium screening not supported…

MoviePass recently announced new restrictions to the service. The problem is that these messages are showing up on all screenings, across all locations in some areas. Even if a screening isn’t a premium screening and isn’t a new release. It isn’t clear exactly what’s causing this issue and there doesn’t seem to be any way to actually resolve it. From what I understand it’s affecting some areas and not others. We’ve reached out to MoviePass for comment. At this stage I’d mark MoviePass as avoid at all costs. If you see any other error messages, or know how to fix any of these issues let us know in the comments below.

Costco is apparently offering full refunds if you purchased an annual plan.

Possible Work Around

Some people are reporting that eticketing still works when this is occurring. Something to keep in mind/try if you can.

I have been trying to use my Movie Pass to see a movie for the past 18 hours. I keep getting the same message”There are no more screenings at this theatre today.” I even tried at 12:10am, 3:00am, and 5:00am. I even tried theaters 3000 miles from my house. I still got the same message: ‘There are no more screenings at this theatre today.”
I just read that on January 25, 2019, Movie Pass is going to start a 3 tier price plan.If you are considering joining Movie Pass, “Forget about it!”

Movie Pass is the biggest scam I have ever encountered! It’s truly amazing a company can get away with this. This pass is unless, and unfortunately, I already paid the year subscription. What can I do?

my movie pass app has not worked in months, originally they would refund the tickets I had to purchase, now they will not and only say the problem will be fixed in 2019. What a sham is all I can say. I am sorry I bought it and can not recommend that anyone else does. If you try to call them you are on hold for over an hour and any movie you might want to get authorization to see has already started. It appears that no one mans the phones after 5 Pacific time. Mitch Lowe should really be ashamed of himself as he is the founder. I sent him an e-mail as I know him with no response. There are no etickets in marin county where I live

movie pass support is useless. I feel bad for them and hope they are getting paid to type or push out canned responses to your requests. I wish now, I
I had bailed out in August and got some of my money back.

They have 50 dollars a day in ticket money. Once the first 5 people buy a ticket with movie pass it defaults to no more screenings today. That’s there way of not going under

I live in the LA area and there have been no movies that I could see for over 10 days. I have gone into there chat room and get the same excuse to be patient, well patience is over , what they are doing is a literal crime, they are charging a fee for a service they are not providing will not give refunds as it’s against there policy so pretty are stealing from all the remaining members.
We should get a website started and file a class action law suit again this scam artists and teach them a real lesson. This should have bee shut down months ago instead they have proved nothing in the way of service.
I was going to go to the theaters and use my 3 movies on any film each month to just screw them over but there is nothing offered.
Comments?

Agreed! I’m also an annual subscriber. My friend (monthly subscriber) and I went on our respective apps at the same time. My app did not shown any available movies in 3 nearby theaters we checked, while hers did. We tried again on another day. Same thing. Seems like movie pass is discriminating against annual subscribers who invested in and trusted the company. Customer service has not yet responded.

I agree with you. They really need to close up shop and just move on. While I had the same thoughts about a lawsuit, you can’t get any money from these people, they do not have any. I agree with the person, that said they allow 5 people per day to see movies and then shut it down.

Got this message. So frustrating. I’d pay twice as much for Movie Pass if it actually worked without glitches. Too bad.

MoviePass is blocking the timings of the movies to restrict customers. Is it legal to do like that?

I have been able to go to a film a day here in SW Florida at both Regal and AMC, including The Spy Who Dumped Me yesterday. I took a huge hit on the stock, but at least the service is still working here except for the few days they were tapped out, and they did pay back the emergency loan in only a few days. They are hanging on day by day. I voted against the reverse split as they never work out for the shareholders and we are right back to the same share price a week later, but really worth 250 times less.

I’ve been following this pretty closely over the last couple weeks. Last week obviously they had the big outage Thursday night, then more on the weekend, all while blocking Mission: Impossible altogether (before they announced that’s what they would be doing going forward with new big releases – 1,000+ screens, I believe).

This week was very interesting where it seemed all the showtimes disappeared (i.e., had been pulled by MoviePass) starting with ~6/7 pm showings. Likely so that MoviePass could save some money by only paying for matinees (and only paying for so many tickets in a day). At midnight, everything seemed to start showing up again, and it would all repeat all over again at some point the next evening. It was almost as if MoviePass had a quota of movies they were willing to pay for each day and just cut it off when they reach that number (whether that is regionally, by movie, etc.). E-ticketing seems to have been hit or miss too. I don’t have any participating theatres near me, but I hear that even some of those are experiencing outages now as well.

Of course, on top of all this has been their peak pricing costs, which also seemed to have no actual correlation to attendance. Some have speculated it relates to what market you might be in (or “near”), but there have even been some DPs on reddit of the same city and theatre having different peak pricing on the same movie (neither were on annual plans, either).

However, today (Friday) for some reason it seemed to be reversed from how it was all week. The only movies I could see when I looked late morning were shows around 7pm+. Very odd. Will be interested to see how this weekend goes.

It seems almost like a foregone conclusion they will be gone very soon. If I had to guess, they won’t make it another two weeks. Too bad…I only had it for two months but I certainly got my use out of it. I have an annual Sinemia subscription as well. They seem mroe sustainable but also have a few quirks. AMC’s plan looks pretty nice, but we only have a small AMC locally. None of the independent films make their way to that theatre, unfortunately. That’s what I’ve gotten most out of my MoviePass.
