The reincarnation of MoviePass earlier this year was a pretty good deal up until about 2-3 months ago. Now you really have to be flexible to even get back what you’re paying every month. In Southern California it’s about 30 cents per credit (68 credits per month at $20). A noon movie on a Monday costs 40 credits ($12), which is about as cheap as it gets through MP anymore. The same ticket directly through the theater costs $11.50.
They seem to have done a pretty good job of collecting theater data over the last 12 months and averaging out the cost of a movie ticket vs. the amount each MP credit is worth. But what’s left now offers zero upside for the consumer and lots of upside for MoviePass. You’d be much better off getting a Regal or AMC subscription if you have any local to you, or just buying discounted gift cards/paying as you go.
How many free movies can realistically see if I sign up for the premium 2 week trial with 113 credits?
One. Everyone gets the same tier of trial: basic (like you).
There is no trial for the other three tiers.
Signed up for this and used this to watch WONKA this past weekend. They give 68 movie credits free – most in the los angeles area cost 59 credits + 7 for being able to use it online so really this is one (standard, 2D) movie.
Once you pick a showtime, they give you access to a virtual mastercard, which you then input the info at whichever theater (in my case, I used it on the AMC app) and you buy the tix. Got me some rewards points at AMC and a free $17 movie so its not worthless. Trial is already cancelled though 🙂

The free trial is really worth one free movie, unless you want to watch a crappy movie on a Wednesday afternoon, in which is it’s worth two movies.
