My American Express Business Platinum 190,000 Points Approval

After being a multi-month hiatus from applying for credit cards, I hit the ground running with instant approvals on the Chase INK Preferred and Capital One Spark. Going through some bills tonight, I realized that I’ll have more spend than necessary to meet the bonus on those two cards. And so I decided to take a stab at the Amex Business Platinum 190k offer.

I was easily able to pull up both the Business Platinum 190,000 offer and the Business Gold 150,000 offer in Chrome incognito. After some consideration, I decided on the Business Platinum. I did try a bit for the monster 250,000 offer, but after a bunch of failed attempts I settled on the 190,000 offer.

Honestly, there wasn’t much hope in my mind of actually getting the card since presumably I’d get the notorious pop-up message declining me the bonus since only two months ago I closed out my previous Business Platinum card.

Imagine my surprise when I got an instant approval on the card with no pop-up message. Yay! Maybe I’ll try confirming with Amex chat that the bonus is attached (though I’ve never heard that be an issue for someone who did not get a pop-up message).

It was a bit strange that they initially just said that my application has been received, but then followed up asking if I wanted to add an employee card. Soon-after, following the prompts, it was clear in the screens that my application had been approved.

They emailed me indicating approval as well. And they gave me an instant card number to use as well. They also told me to expect the card by tomorrow – Amex is always quick with getting a new card to the customer.

I declined the employee card offer since this 190k offer does not have an employee bonus attached to it. I’ll have to check if there’s any way for me to add an employee offer afterward; that would be sweet since the same spend toward the employee bonus would then double toward the signup bonus.

If I open a US bank business checking and fund it with the business platinum, does that count towards SUB?

I was approved for the business Platinum and would be relying on paying tax to meet part of the spending requirements. I read something from Reddit and said AE may not count tax payment as spending? What is your experience? I’m very worried now. I’m not a big spend at all.

You should be fine – see this post (linking to a reddit DP) on paying taxes with amex: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chase-promotes-paying-taxes-with-a-credit-card/

The concern people are seeing is that if you’re trying to get a last minute spend in, ie the card might not arrive in time and you’re using the instant card number amex provides, people have reported the spend on the instant number not counting towards the SUB spend.

I applied and no pop up. no instant approval. got link to check status and cannot check due to system glitch on website. Called with App id. Agent said offer not approved as there was a return payment on one Amex business card in last 30 days (There is none). Agent in reconsideration connected to customer service who confirmed there are no suchreturned/late payments. Agent tried to resubmit but system will not allow him to do so. Was told sorry, said system is faulty and i should reapply after 30 days. WTF

If I use this exact card to pay IRS/Tax, does it still counted toward the spending requirement? Some data points says Amex no longer allow that, some says it is fine. It is pay tax using this card still a viable way of meet the requirement? thx much.

I used taxes for both the Amex Business Platinum and Gold. Worked fine as of September 2023.

If there is LL in the terms you can get approved but probably no welcome bonus. I got approved for biz gold late last year after having it closed 4+ years ago. Amex called and emailed me saying that since I’ve already had the card before there will be no SUB.

This exact thing happened to me. I had been in Amex pop-up jail for years but I got instantly approved for the 190K business platinum earlier this month!

And you’ve had the Amex Biz Plat before too? And still got approved and received the bonus?

Was there NLL when you applied? I am able to see the 190k offer via incognito, but i see this message “You may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer if you have or have had this Card or previous versions of this Card. “.

I’m asking this because you said that you closed out a Amex Business Platinum card two months ago but still getting a 190k SUB through this approval .

That is the standard LL that Amex provides. When there is a message like this during application, you will certainly not receive the SUB.

I am confused because this language exists within the application for 190k offer, but OP said that they did have the Business Platinum card in the past.

To be clear though – you are saying the application HAD the standard lifetime language and you got through it without a popup? That’s the key thing.
