(Update 4/25/23: I received a direct deposit which triggered the $300 checking bonus immediately. A couple of months later, I’ve now completed the 90 day hold time on the $15k. Today, I see the $200 savings bonus hit my savings account and the bonus $400 combination bonus hit my checking account. Success! For the next three months, I’ll leave $300 in the savings account and $1,500 in the checking account to keep them fee-free. Then I’ll pull out all funds and message Chase to close out the accounts.)
By now we’re all aware of the $900 Chase checking and savings bonus (which is still available at the time of this writing). For me it’s been more than two years since my last Chase coupon enrollment and it’s been more than 90 days since I closed out my prior Chase checking account. And so today I set about opening the new accounts.
It’s a quick process for those who have a Chase login – the system automatically populates most of the information necessary to open the accounts. The Chase promo code is seen clearly in the URL.
Unfortunately for me, the system popped up with an error message: “Your account was opened, but we’re having trouble applying your offer. We’ll send you an email once it’s been applied.” I got a congrats email from Chase for the new accounts, and they show up in my regular Chase login.
A number of other readers also got the same error message as me, and I’m not yet seeing anyone saying they automatically got an email confirming the offer.
I sent Chase a secure message with my Chase coupon code offer, and they did confirm the promo code has been successfully applied. It sounds like it may have been manually applied upon request. I’m not sure what happens if you just wait it out. For anyone else in the same boat, please let us know your experiences.
I don’t see the bonus tracker that readers mention which makes me a bit nervous. Maybe it takes some time to show up. (I’m unsure exactly where that’s supposed to show up in the login or app.) For those with a legit direct deposit, I’d think the secure message confirmation should be good enough. Just make sure they confirm the full $900 offer – it took me a couple of attempts via secure message until I made sure that was clear.
Hopefully the tracker will show up or I’ll get some other confirmation. Then I’ll deposit $15,000 via check deposit directly to the savings account, and I’ll get a small direct deposit to the new checking account.
I received the $600 offer via snail mail. It appears to be largely the same ($300 for checking + $200 for savings, deposit 15K and keep for 90 days), but the “do both” bonus is $100 instead of $400. Of course I’d rather do the $900 bonus. Is there any reason why I should go with the lower targeted offer? Or dp’s that I would not get approved for the $900 offer?
I got spam mail about a $700 offer for the same account setup last year. Signed up for the $900 link instead back in February and got the full bonus successfully.
Sorry about the long winded approach, but the complexity of this “Bonus” offer requires it…. After deciding to try and get this $900 offer I opened a checking and savings account at Chase via the online offer sent to me by my Amazon Chase credit card. I found that in the process instead of having to open up a separate account I was able to log into my Amazon Chase account and the accounts magically appeared (so same login and same password). I went ahead and set up a $300 transfer from my **FCU account (with Chase’s system) from whom I’m removing most of my funds eventually. Over the many years I’ve been with **FCU the service has gotten to the level of more than rotten. The last straw was when I had a CD rollover and I missed the cut off by one day because I was preoccupied with my wife’s cancer surgery, and to add to that days adventure, my granddaughter had wrist surgery and I was transporting both of them to and from. **FCU rolled my CD that had been earning 5%APY into a 1.4% APY CD, even though the 5% CD offer was still available. When I inquired about the forced earning reduction/ transfer I was informed that I had to Pay $63 penalty to close out the CD and move the money back into my savings account. Chewing on that bullet was not fun, but they no longer have that money. Below the === line is the reply from Chase about the new Accounts bonus. (Redacted/ edited for spelling and spacing) Below the ___ line is the original inquiry by me about the new Account(s) bonus. In Summation: Wanting to know to a much finer degree what I need to do in the future to insure I get the $900 ($300 Checking, $200 Savings, $400 Combo), this is the confusion that I came to: I MUST get an auto deposit from a government or employer sent to my checking account within 30 days. Since I’m retired and I don’t want my SS or retirement going to them and to have to change all of my automated bill pay system, I’m going to try to transfer my VA Benefits ($130/Month). I’m hoping VA deposit meets Chase’s rules. I’m going to start transferring funds from my checking/savings at **FCU in $3000 chunks (their daily limit) until I have the $15K that Chase demands. That will take at least a week or 2 (because I’m retired and busy as Hell). My interpretation of their response below and the offer wording shows I will have met the full requirements by: 1) Simultaneously opening a Checking and Savings accounts (I qualify as a new customer despite having a Chase based Credit Card). 2) Linking my **FCU checking account with Chase and successfully transferring some money ($300 each in my case). So that I can transfer money into the new account(s) 3) Setting up an Employer/Government Auto Deposit to my Chase Checking account a) The wording… Read more »
Square deposit works as DD
“Bought” something off myself and withdrew to Chase. Was only like $12 and got the bonus.
For DD requirement, anyone tried cash back rewards redemption?
Banks such as Citi/USBank allow to set up an external bank account to make through trial deposit or Plaid to make the redemption deposit. Also, will Chase send a DD received notification that is reliable?
Yes, I tried Citi cashback rewards redemption. The redemption posted into my Chase Total Checking account as “10/30 Citicards Cash Reward PPD ID: Citirtrwdi”. I do not know if the redemption triggered the DD Bonus Tracker because I was simultaneously trying so many different things.
To deposit a $15,000 check into Chase saving, does it matter which bank and which account this check is from? I have the money in my Fidelity individual account and can I use a check from this account? PS: the money was transferred from my other checking account to fidelity, it was not used for investment.
I don’t see why the origination bank matters
Having trouble finding info on a reliable source on goo DD for chase
Capital one (which account too?? Savings??) is old and that’s all I’ve seen for people who don’t work.
Got any ideas??
I signed up for the offer.
Day 1 – I transferred $50 from Juno finance to chase. It got credited on Day 3.
Day 3 – I linked the chase account on my CIT bank which sent the penny deposits to chase on day 4.
Day 8th – I gave a withdraw request from BeFrugal, but the money has not credited yet. they say the money gets credited in 1 day, but it has not credited after couple of days.
Day 9th – I see the $300 bonus credited on checking.
Either the CIT or BeFrugal should have triggered the bonus.
I can’t find the bonus tracker in the web or mobile app.
I’ve had a Chase Amazon Visa card for ages. Last year, I opened Chase checking and savings accounts to get the then-current bonuses. I received the payments and my keep-open period has long passed for that offer.
I’ve kept balances of $1500 checking and $400 savings since I moved the bulk of the money back to my other credit union accounts that pay non-ridiculous interest. I’d prefer to move that last $1900 out, too, but I’m wondering whether there’s any advantage to keeping Chase banking account open for future potential offers. Any advice is welcome.
I opened a total checking account for a $300 bonus. The offer did not have wording about a 180 day clawback period, so I will try to close it as soon as the bonus posts and update about clawback/no clawback.
I have just submitted a CFPB to close chase total checking literally the day after bonus as they froze my funds transfer and it was a huge hassle to get them to unfreeze it and I did not want to have to risk sending money in there for fee waiver.
Did not see any clawback language in terms either. Will submit another CFPB if they bring account into negative and attempt to send me to collections or something.
