Our Verdict
The 3%/$3k rate has been around for sometime. There was previously a 3%/$10k rate available, now it changed to 2.25%/$50k. Lower rate than before, but much higher maximum, and still significantly better than the best rate CDs which hover mostly in the 1.60-2.00% range. It’s also a cool benefit that they allow you to continue adding funds to the CD the entire duration.
The best rate available to the broad population who are not eligible for NFCU membership is a 2% APY rate from Synchrony on a 1-year CD. That one is also better in the sense that it doesn’t have the $50k cap. We’ll add these accounts to our list of Best High-Interest CD Accounts Available.

There's a new 3.75% 40-month IRA CD with NFCU. It still has the $100 bonus for new Navy Federal IRAs. Not too bad, especially for someone who already banks with them.

Right. I don't think we posted, but it's possible I missed it in search.

So, yes it is the same offer, and if you have already opened one, regardless of how much you have put into it, you cannot open another--although if you have not reached the maximum of $50,000 deposited (principal only interest does not count toward the limit), you can add more to the CD, up to the maximum of $50,000 (for this particular offer).
I did the 2% one from last year. I opened this 2.25% one today. They both show as separate accounts with different maturity dates for me.
