Our Verdict
When the card first launched it had no sign up bonus, I said I expect we’d see one in the future and here we go. Using the card for all other purchases, restaurants and gas stations doesn’t make a lot of sense as there are better cards out there for those categories. There are better cards for grocery store purchases as well, but those all have limits. For unlimited cards 3x is the best you can get so there might be some long term use there for some people. Thankfully the card also has no annual fee and is an American Express (so can be used for AmEx offers via Twitter). A bonus worth $250 isn’t bad, but the spend requirement is quite high for such a bonus.
If you want to know more about NFCU credit cards I’d recommend reading this post. This card and bonus definitely isn’t for everybody, but could be useful to some. Given the restricted membership, high minimum spend requirement and only the mid tier sign up bonus I won’t be adding this bonus to the best credit card bonus page.
Also, I asked via SM to be matched to the 30000 point offer and attached the image linked above, but they denied saying that they will not match targeted offers. 25000 points still ain’t too bad!
DP: For those that have this card and still have a Serve account after the recent shutdowns, I can confirm that you can reload Serve with this card and the transactions post in the “Retail” category for Rewards. I have asked for confirmation as well that these “purchases” are going against the minimum spend for the sign up bonus by inquiring as to how much I’ve spent thus far (playing dumb). Will report back.
Approved today for the 25,0000 bonus points.
Just want to comment on the note regarding using this card for AmEx offers via Twitter. I tried that and it said the card is not eligible. Anyone have any success with this?
I just noticed the Reward structure for this card is better than for the Flagship.
5,000 Points = $50 Visa GC with the Amex. It costs 10,000 points either Flagship.
i’m desperate to become a member of NFCU but no direct family members in military services. any way around it?
Not anymore, there used to be a work around but it doesn’t work any longer.
You can also join the military like the rest of us..
If you already have a NFCU checking/saving account, try log in your account and check around. I saw a 30k bonus offer on the sidebar.
Oooh, thanks Howie.
That’s most likely the 30k/$100 Travel Credit Flagship Rewards offer that’s Howie is seeing and not this one.
That actually may be a possibility as I can’t seem to generate that offer anymore. I do remember the target offer did said 3x points something though, which rules out the Travel Credit Flagship Rewards. I’ll keep trying again to confirm :).
Ah ok, updated post again.
Knew I saw the right offer! Received this in my email today.

Thanks, will update post again haha
Do american express cards like this one (WF propel, etc;) which are not issued directly from American Express still fall into American Express’ max 4-5 card allotment at a time?
No
tnx, signing up for propel tmrw then.
I was thinking about that card but still not too convinced, any specific reason you are signing up? Just trying to get a perspective on why one should get that card and if its good enough may be I will sign up for that myself
I’m thinking that all the pre-release hype about the NFCU-Amex partnership failed to generate the expected number of applications, so they’ve added a signup bonus to generate some excitement about the new card.
My own view is that the NFCU More Rewards card is nothing more than a carbon copy of the NFCU Go Rewards card with an emphasis on groceries instead of dining. Both cards have an unacceptably high $50 minimum redemption levels for cash back.
IMO, I think its worth it for folks who got converted over to the new BBVA card, from the NBA Amex, to get this one, as the spend bonus on the grocery category is better. Thoughts?
