Malik What were your Chex stats for the last 1, 3, 6, and 12 months?

Both P2 and myself signed up and were approved. I’ll be using a real DD to (hopefully) trigger the bonus. For P2, I plan to use some combination of Alliant, SoFi, Discover, and possibly Fidelity to simulate a DD. Of note, the bonus posts 30 days after the terms are met (meaning the DD) and we have 60 days to complete the DD. As such, I should know within the initial 60-day window if these worked. The “List of Banks that Code as a DD” part of this site has no datapoints for Coastal Credit Union. As such, I’ll be sure to report back, although it is quite possible that I’ll be unsure exactly which of these banks triggered the bonus (assuming the bonus is indeed triggered).

Kenny M. was it a soft pull or a hard pull on your credit?

Can join NC Consumers Council for $20, which apparently qualifies you for membership. Any of you OOS animals going to try this one?

I’m in state, but not in one of the locations listed in the eligibility section. I used this NC Consumers Council method to join and was able to successfully open an account. Will then refer P2 using P1’s membership as the eligibility

Void27 Thanks! Did they pull your Chex report? If so, what were your Chex stats for the last 1, 3, 6, and 12 months?

Long time member here. Gonna close account and reopen I guess. Nothing in eligibility says existing checking members in __ months can’t get bonus.

Coastal has branches all over the Triangle, but doesn’t give community membership to those cities?

I also live in Cary about 5 minute drive away from a branch. I’m holding off on this one for a few days. I’ll try to visit a branch and see if they’ll do this.

Coastal does have a $5 fee per month after 6 months of inactivity. Ask me how I know.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve had an account with them for over a decade, and they’ve never done that nonsense before. I haven’t logged in to check yet. If they hit me for $5, they’re dead to me. They did pay an $82 dividend early this year, which was nice. I’ve found them to be consistently customer-friendly, but they’re probably feeling the deposit squeeze like everybody else.

Josh Matt Since you guys have accounts, do you know whether they pull Chex, whether they are sensitive to Chex, and/or whether they allow credit card funding of new accounts?

Only if there’s less than $250 in the account.
