Details
Until August 1, all Staples Reward members earned 5% in rewards to be used for future Staples purchases. The rewards are typically issued at the end of the month and are valid for a month of so. Under the new rules, only Premeir members earn 5%. Base members earn 2% and Plus members earn 3%.
Plus status comes from spending $500-$999 annually, Premeir status comes for spending $1000 annually.
All Staples Rewards members are still eligible for free shipping on staples.com with no minimum.
Our Verdict
It’s always saddening to hear down-grading in rewards programs, but at least the free shipping with no minimum is still around; that comes in handy sometimes (like when I ordered some super-sticky Post-It notes on sale for $2 a few weeks ago). Becoming a Staples Reward member is free, so it can’t hurt to sign up if you haven’t already. There is a minimum of $5 needed to get a reward certificate, so with the current Base Member level of 2% that becomes harder.
To end on a bright note, FrequentMiler recently reported that there’s a shopping portal SavingStar which is offering 10% back at Staples.
