Our Verdict
The regular deal on Venture is to get 40,000 ($400), though we’ve seen it go up to 50,000 or even up to 75,000. This offer has the additional option of spending an additional $17,000 and getting an extra 50k points (100k total).
Basically, the initial $3,000 spend gets you the first 50k points, and after that, you’re getting almost 3% extra per $1 if you meet the extra $17,000 requirement. And that’s on top of the regular 2x everywhere which the card gets, so it’s a nice 5% back on the $17,000 spend. And they give a nice year-long time period to meet the spend.
If you meet the $20k requirement, you’ll have 140,000 points (7% back on your spend) which can be redeemed either as a travel credit to offset $1,400 in travel costs or you can get gift card redemptions in that amount. You can also transfer the miles to 12 travel partners that Capital One has. Through December 31, you can also offset dining and streaming charges, so this is a good time for non-travelers to get the card.
The Venture might also be interesting to some people as an everyday card. I was thinking of giving this one a shot, but realized I have the Chase Amazon 4% offer going on now, so won’t gain as much with the new card.
We’ll add this offer to our list of best credit card signup bonuses. If you’re going to apply, it’s worth checking out these Things to Know about Capital One Credit Cards first. Notably, Capital One is known to pull all three credit bureaus for each application. Keep in mind, you can freeze your Experian or Transunion and limit the pulls to just two. Another issue is that they seem to be stricter with approvals than other card issuers, and they may also have a rule to only approve one card per six months (hard pull won’t even be done beyond that).

- Update 11/16/20: We’ve confirmed with media sources that this 100,000 signup bonus offer will be valid through December 14, 2020.
So I met the 20k requirement over a month ago. Still no miles! I’ve called twice. The party line is it takes 2 billing cycles to hit! WTF? Generally the SUBs post pretty quickly. At least I don’t have an immediate need for the miles.
Anyone else notice today that certain travel purchases already redeemed for statement credits are showing back up as options to be redeemed again (i.e. you could redeem the travel purchase twice)?
Yes, I was able to redeem about $500 in travel purchases, twice!
It seems that Venture X is going to become available in few days. Looks solid.
Just to make sure, Capital One counts spending on authorized user cards towards the sign-up bonus?
Capital One sucks! This company is no bueno.
When I went to redeem for cash its only giving around $250 for 50,000 points. How do I get around this? Do a book a flight inside of the capital one portal and use the rewards or do I book outside of capital one and just use the redeem feature? I am not sure how this all works.
If I already got the Quicksilver bonus $200, am I eligible for this bonus as well from Capital One?
I think it’s one bonus every 6 months and 2 personal capital one cards per person. So you should be eligible if you meet these requirements.
Got it, what if I literally just got the quicksilver bonus last week… do I need to wait 6 months?
$200 for $500 not bad
I would think you need to unfortunately.
Extra 50k “miles” for 17K spend is actually not much better than doing organic spending with a lot of other credit cards.
DP: Applied for this card on 2/15 this year and received instant denial. At time was at 5/24. Hit 4/24 beginning of July and applied and approved for CIP. Just checked pre-approvals for Cap One and this card showed up. Went ahead and applied and instant approval. I have had a Cap On checking since last year and no other relationship. I believe they have loosened restrictions as others have stated.
