New Lyft-Hilton Partnership: Earn Points with Every Lyft Ride (Stacks with Other Programs); Redeem Hilton Points for Lyft Rides

Update 11/21/19: Redeeming Hilton points for rides is now live. $10 credit costs 4,500 points (0.22¢ per point). Basically a useless redemption.

Lyft-Hilton Partnership

Direct Link | Press Release

Lyft has announced a new partnership with Hilton which will enable Lyft riders to earn Hilton points when taking rides:

  • Get 3x Hilton points per dollar spent with Lyft on economy, luxury, as well as extra seats.
  • Get 2x Hilton points per dollar spent with Lyft on Shared Lyft rides.

Another facet of the partnership will launch later this year whereby you’ll be able to REDEEM Hilton points for Lyft rides. No precise date is given and no redemption value has yet been stated for these redemptions.

The Fine Print

  • Must link your Hilton account to your Lyft account first.
  • Lyft ride prices/payments that are eligible to earn Points includes base fare charges but excludes taxes, fees, tolls and tips.
  • Customers may earn Points on up to $10,000 USD of eligible Lyft spend per calendar year.

Our Verdict

Lyft has already partnered with Delta to earn 1x Delta mile per dollar spent on Lyft (2x on airport rides). And Lyft also has a partnership with JetBlue as well to earn 30 points per airport ride. TPG has confirmed with Lyft that this partnership does not impede the other partnership from working, meaning you can earn points on all 3 programs at once. That’s pretty awesome! World Elite Mastercard cardholders also receive a $10 credit for every five rides taken in a calendar month. And, of course, you’ll earn credit card point with the travel multiplier in many cases as well.

Will be sweet if the option to redeem Hilton points for Lyft rides will turn out useful as well, but we’ll have to wait to see what the redemption rate is when it’s released later this year.

No longer stackable 🙁

“Starting June 30, 2021 you may only earn points or miles through your Lyft account with one travel partner rewards program at a time. You can change which travel partner rewards program you want to activate at any time in the Lyft App. If you do not make a selection by June 30, 2021, you will be defaulted to the travel partner you selected enrolled in first on June 30, 2021. Delta and Hilton partnership terms apply.”

What a useless redemption. It’s a lyft credit – like their useless gift cards that aren’t really gift cards but credits – which means you can’t stack it with any other Lyft offers such as 10% off or 15% off and so on.

From the FAQs page:

Members can redeem a minimum of 4,500 Points. Larger amounts of Points can be redeemed for higher credit values as follows:
$10 Lyft credit = 4,500 Points
$25 Lyft credit = 11,250 Points
$50 Lyft credit = 22,500 Points
$75 Lyft credit = 33,750 Points
$100 Lyft credit = 45,000 Points

My Hilton and lynx accounts are linked but not able to add my HH card. It still has another cc on it. Any idea how to change this

This is a great way to not let your old hilton points expire for someone who has no real use for them currently.

Luckily for me, i cashed out at the .5 cent amazon glitch 🙂

Don’t forget that the partnership between Lyft and JetBlue ended on September 9th.

At 3x points per dollar spent, if I take a $5 lyft ride then I get 15 hilton points? I’m going to need a lot more lyft rides..

a) I see the most value in just keeping your Hilton points from expiring without any stays or earning activity (as most Hilton cards have the AF).
b) free is free, and you can collect points on all 3 partner programs simultaneously (Hilton, JetBlue, Delta) when applicable.

My only concern is sharing of the info… need to read more about it.

Don’t forget that you can earn 25 cents per lyft ride when you start with the Ebates/Rakuten app 🙂

I like the effort, but it’s going to take something comparable to Uber’s Visa Local Offers for me to switch over to Lyft. If you MS, it’s not hard to rack up a ton of Uber credit through VLO, not to mention the monthly Uber credit from AMEX Plat(s). While Lyft has good points-earning partnerships and the same benefits of booking through Freebird for additional rewards, it still doesn’t compare to the outsized benefit of Uber’s VLO. (The availability of Uber gift cards on Amazon also opens up some good avenues of obtaining bigger rewards.)

Getting points is nice, but riding for free is nicer.

This. And (so far) it’s easy to get Uber at 20% off+CC rewards, never see Lyft GC on sale, maybe the random Amex offer.

Exactly. If you get lucky and Amazon discounts Uber GCs during a “$30 off $60+ using 1 AMEX MR point” deal, it really becomes a steal.

Once in a while I see promos for 20% discounts on Uber gift cards, but I never thought it to be “easy” to get Uber 20% off. Where are you getting these discounts consistently? I ask because I use UberEats a lot.

Hi how do you maximize VLO? Do you eat out a lot and then get Uber cash? I’ve also noticed when you have a large Uber gift card balance, the fares are slightly higher (sometimes) then Freebird. Although sometimes Freebird is higher.

Since its inception, there has been at least one place where I’ve been able to MS in my region. The best was when Whole Foods was on VLO and they gave Uber Cash for getting cash back on debit transactions, but they’ve also had Southeast Grocers (Winn Dixie, Harvey’s, Bi-Lo, etc.) and have had Sam’s Club for quite a while now.

Buy some VGCs/MCGCs, liquidate, and profit in points and Uber Cash. With Sam’s Club stacking with Yelp for a long time, it was also cash-profitable notwithstanding the cc points and Uber.

As for Freebird, the Uber price has always been the same for me between both apps (within a few cents, which can be attributable to minor differences in timing & dynamic pricing), including available promos.
