Our Verdict
Previous high on this card was 20,000 points. Standard bonus is 15,000 points from memory. Points are worth 1¢ towards travel (& I think statement credit) and there is a minimum redemption of 5,000 points, so basically $300 credit towards travel. Not the best bonus available, but certainly not terrible either. 3x on restaurants & 2x on gas isn’t that attractive long term as there are better options out there, same goes for the 1x on all other purchases. If you want more information regarding NFCU cards and the rules associated with them, read this post.
Wayback Machine shows latest July 26 capture and the bonus…i def gotta call and get this applied.
details say til 7/31..
all sorted and good to go
Dead for now seems..
just received line two weeks ago and nothing at all mentioned, nor in the pack sent..perhaps a call in would produce something.
Link doesn’t show bonus on the page too.
would be helpful to stick to one naming convention for navy federal credit union (helps when searching for old posts). think prob the best option would be “Navy Federal Credit (NFCU)”. currently there are some posts as “navy federal” and some as just “nfcu”. obviously the nfcu ones dont appear when you search navy federal and vice versa. thanks!
Yeah agreed, let me update this one.
I have the Go Rewards. You can use the points for statement credit. There is a minimum 5000 point ($50) redemption. So this is a 300 dollar bonus.
I signed up for the NFCU Flagship Rewards Visa card exactly 3 months ago (required 3500 min spend in 3 months for 40k points), and I thought because it was a Visa, I would have no problem meeting minimum spend with a couple bank account openings with just a sprinkling of organic spend. Well, 3 months later, I have had less than stellar results. I had a couple bank funding transactions that I did went through, but did not count for points, including a couple small online purchases at legitimate websites. Bank account openings coded as Business Service purchases; BBVA $500 counted for points right away, Andigo $3K and PNC $2K points did not. Eventually the normal points did post for Andigo and the online transactions, but do not show up in the transaction log as points awarded, just in the overall total points earned. I think they pity posted them manually… and pretty sure it won’t count towards my min. spend. When I called about the online purchases and why I didn’t get points, the CSR gave me a story about CU wide this was an issue for the specified dates, but 2 months later I tried PNC account funding and the points didn’t post, so I doubt this is just a freak accident.
What I should have done is MS in person at a storefront, but that’s not how I roll. So, I believe this will be my first ever failure to meet min. spend. Not looking for sympathy, as this is how this “hobby” goes. Win some – lose some.
Moral of the story is, don’t expect bank account openings to meet min. spend with Navy Federal. Per terms, I have a couple months wait to find out if I am right or wrong, if I get my sign-up bonus, but I am not feeling good on the subject. I will reply down the road with the end result.
Why did you only give this card “just a sprinkling of organic spend”? Wouldn’t paying for dining, groceries, gas, utilities, cell service, etc have been much simpler and faster than opening bank accounts?
I normally try not to meet min. spend on my regular purchases that are current 5%+ categories. Last quarter: Groceries – 6% BCP & 5+5% Discover, Utilities & Cell – US Bank 5%. I have 3% cards for Gas and Restaurants, and those I would bypass to get spend on a new card.
I try not to be penny-wise and pound foolish, but I didn’t think my sign-up bonus was in jeopardy. In hindsight, had I known that the bank account funding MAY not work, I would have changed my spending plan. Even so, I would have had to pay ahead to get to $3500 in 3 months. But I could have made it, had I been forewarned.
Almost nothing beats bank accounts for speed. And I refuse to play the MS storefront game of guessing which VGC will work at which store to liquidate them. To each there own.
NFCU bonus generally takes a long time to post, can be as long as 2-3 months after meeting minimum spend. So i wouldn’t give up hope yet
Thanks. I am hoping.
Did you end up getting the signup bonus?
Yes. If i recall correctly, took a good month or so after the 90 day window.
Bank account funding using Navy Federal Mastercard Go Rewards did not result in points or a cash advance fee. Shows as a transaction without points.
What happened to me was they will eventually post the points in the main counter, but it won’t show in the regular transaction log. Took a few weeks. I went through this within the last few months. Ultimately I did get my (flagship reward) points and it counted towards my minimum spend bonus. I’m guessing they manually review certain transactions, and when it gets approved it doesn’t go back in update the transaction log.
Were there any transactions that didn’t end up counting?
They did credit all points. Some did not get the points per the list, but the overall balance was updated about a month later.
Sorry, which “list” are you referring to? Are you saying that all purchases counted toward minimum spent, but some purchases did not earn points?
First, I have the Flagship Rewards, not the Go Rewards, but I imagine the process is the same.
When you login to NFCU, you find your credit card, and click “Rewards”. That takes you to https://navyrewards.navyfederal.org/home/get.htm which will provide your current reward point balance. If you then click “History”, it will list all transactions and the point value assigned for each.
Some of my transactions had 0 points assigned, however, about a month later, points for each and every transaction were awarded points to the main point counter page I listed above. But, if you look at the transaction “list” under History, it still shows 0 points for those transactions.
That makes sense. Thank you!
Very useful info. I did fund 2k to PNC with the card and want to get the points as I have two new cards that I need to meet the minimum spend on. 5k and 4k respectively so I was hopeful I would finish in a couple of days but if I have to put 2k more on the card that would suck.
