- In addition, the account must be open and in good standing at time of bonus payment.
- The bonus is considered interest and will be reported to the IRS on Form 1099-INT. If multiple accounts are opened with the same signer, only one account will be eligible for the bonus.

Avoiding Fees
Basic Checking
There is a non-waiveable $3 monthly service fee.
Simply Right Checking
There is a $10 monthly fee that is waived when you make any financial transaction that posts during a calendar month*. Includes deposits, withdrawals, transfers or payments. Excludes fees, rebates or adjustments posted by Santander.
Early Account Termination Fee
$25 if closed within 90 days
Our Verdict
Standard bonus is $225 and that requires a direct deposit. This is an extra $75 and doesn’t require a direct deposit. When signing up you’ll want to pay particular attention to overdraft protection. You are forced to agree to it when applying online, but you’ll want to select “Some overdrafts” instead of “All overdrafts” to avoid the hard pull. This deal is definitely worth doing and is the highest we’ve seen from Santander. This is getting added to the best bank bonus page.

got a mailed offer but the terms are different – $1,000 of direct deposits over 90 days instead of a $2,000 balance
Does anyone have the code for the $300 bonus? I didn’t write it down and they insist on the code after 5 months to pay the bonus. Thanks
I thought it was an unique code when applying. At least I got the code via email.
Whoops. Forgot to add my DP.
This was my first bank bonus promo that i learned to do from this site, was a heavy credit card MS’er prior and was too lazy to read up on how DD works and the basis of transferring funds around.
07/27/2020 Account opened, Funded $2,000
Made 1 time $50 deposit every month to get rid of banking fees.
10/27/2020: $300 bonus posted.
Thanks Doc !
7/29: Opened with $500 credit card charge
8/03: Deposited $2000
10/28: Bonus $300 posted
Completed application 7/31 with $300 promo code and initial funded immediately and ACH from two banks. Santander holds my account until 8/11 and then initial fund finally went through, but ACH was suspended. Later that month, I pushed more money into this account to achieve $2k daily balance. No one gave me a reason after a few calls and meet in person in branch.
Not sure whether I am still able to get the bonus since the last day to open is 7/31. Let see. I will update.
No bonus until 10/31. Also, I was charged $3 paper statement fee.
Opened 7/24. $300 bonus posted 10/22.
Opened 7/17.
$300 bonus posted 10/15
How soon after the bonus posts can you close the account without penalty? looks immediately.
I was wondering the same thing. Did you close yours yet?
Anyone want to be that datapoint? Otherwise I might try to close in a few days.
I haven’t yet. I guess I will before the end of the year, just because December is when I do my annual account cleanup.
I love that phrase
“annual account cleanup”
Sounds like a Mob-Boss hit, but the electronic version, yet being completely legal about it as well 😀
7/8: Account opened with $25 debit card deposit
7/10: Pushed $2200 from Ally to fund
10/7: Posted
Posted exactly after 90 days
Same here. Good for Santander!
