The Offer
- NJ Transit will be offering all services free from Monday August 26th through Monday September 2nd, 2024.
As a thank you to our loyal customers, Governor Murphy has announced a transit fare holiday period for all customers from 8/26 through 9/2. Fares will be waived for all modes of transportation, offering free rides across the NJ TRANSIT network. pic.twitter.com/bNHbRUIZwY

Our Verdict
Nice freebie for those in the area.
Hat tip to Dansdeals
Is the suburban transit also included? And if you go to NY and take a NJTransit bus from port authority, is that free?
Only NJ Transit is free, not buses that accept NJ transit tickets. All NJ Transit buses and trains are free except the airtrain at Newark Airport.
Nice. Free is free. I appreciate this.
All you curmudgeons need to ‘mind your own damn business’. You probably aren’t even in NJ/NY/PA. And if you are, and you wanna still pay for tickets, that’s on you, losers.
I left the area 10 years ago, and ticket prices were pretty ridiculous. Thanks for the freebie, but seriously, they need to have all their fares across the board.
*halve
And good riddance. Bye, Felicia.
These stunts are always timed to coincide with election season.
Show me on the doll where they hurt you.
Weird clapback
Every month is election season in America.
With this, you could technically travel from NY to Philly for free. A conductor also confirmed with me that Port Jervis line operated by Metro North is also free.
People here are so negative. Last week of August is the lowest ridership period anyways.
Im going to try this out since Im heading that way anyway
I’ve made several plans for next week around this – including fornlong weekend. Should save me $80+
Thats the point some folks are making. It is good for some but not good for the overall system as you can see from the recent fare increases and other negative changes and outages. Only $cumbag polticians come up with stupid bs
I dont even know what to say about this stunt, way beyond stupid.
Benefits some folks and screws some other folks, all for some publicity for a corrupt politician and in the end everyone pays for it.
Gotta buy vote after putting in 15% rates 3% increase in perpetuity and expiring everyone’s tickets
The wording of the tweet is terrible. It’s not a thank-you to the customers. If anything it’s an apology. It’s because the NJ transit has had so many issues and delays and cancelations this summer that I have witnessed people straight-out refusing to purchase / show their tickets to the conductor. These are what you’d call “well-off” daily commuters to Wall Street.
Homeless, Vagrants, Thieves,…All Aboard!!
Honest people, steer clear.
assuming they can read
They just need one who can read
Interesting positive take on a nice thing. To each his or her own!
Cities across the US have done things like this in the past.
Statistics show that crime and violence increases due to these types of “free rides”.
If that is your cup of tea, to each his own!
