Our Verdict
Not sure when this deal ends, but flyer was from December 2024 so should still be active. Worth doing if you live near a branch.

I just applied for a Complete Checking account by clicking on the “Click to Open a New Account” button on the PDF. As a former customer like
Bertrand, I decided to roll the dice and apply with my Chex frozen.
Right after I entered my email address, the system recognized me and prefilled most of the info on the app. I ran into a problem though. It had my correct driver’s license # but it had expired info as I have since gotten a new license.
I called CS and spoke to a nice rep. She told me to proceed through the app and that I would be able to send in my updated license after being approved. She also confirmed that the $350 promo is currently active and would automatically apply to all Complete Checking accounts that get opened.
I finished the app, including funding from an account that I linked through “Plaid”. My account was approved immediately and I was given my account # and was able to create an online login and view my account immediately, unlike with BMO yesterday.
I decided to follow the lead of
Harold and send a SM. I asked about uploading my current driver’s license as I would like to avoid being locked out like Bertrand was. I wonder if he also had expired info on the license or if he was locked out for a different reason.
I also asked to confirm that the offer is attached to my account.
If I end up getting approved, I’ll probably deposit $2K near the end of June and then maintain the balance through Sept as it’s almost 8% APY on that part of the offer.
Since you opened your account in May, did you deposit the $2K near the end of May or are you not doing that part of the promo?
Yes, that’s correct. I asked if you “deposit[ed] the $2K near the end of May” as I figured that you didn’t wait until yesterday (or later) as you would then need more than $2k in the account to meet the “average balance” requirement.
I opened my account on 5/28 and then put $2000 on 5/30. I only have to keep that $2000 for 6/1 till 8/31 isn’t it?
Yes, you are free to remove most of the $2K on 9.1.25.
I’m just curious, what is the 4.5% Savings account that you use?
P1 and P2 applied with Chex frozen. P1 (a former customer) was approved instantly. Account was locked a few days later but restored after providing copy of ID. P2 went pending, provided documentation after follow-up request but ultimately was denied. Might at some point try reapplying for P2 with Chex unfrozen.
That’s interesting that you were approved with your Chex frozen. Can you check if there is an inquiry from Flushing in the “soft” section of your Chex report?
Are you implying that your P2 was not a former customer of Flushing? Can you check if there is an inquiry from Flushing in the “soft” section of their Chex report?
Yes, I have a soft inquiry from Flushing. And P2 is not a former customer. Haven’t had a chance to check her Chex to see if she got a soft inquiry but I’d be surprised if she didn’t.
I closed my previous Flushing checking account in 2021. I just opened a new account following the instructions above with no issues. A CSR confirmed via SM that I am enrolled in the promotion.
Which instructions are you referring to?
Loading the PDF and clicking on the link,
Was your Chex frozen or unfrozen when you applied as a former customer? Was your Chex pulled by Flushing?
Not frozen.
Just had account opened but can’t find any way to add an external transfer account?
I couldn’t even find the account number on the website..Anyone has any luck?
The account (and routing) number are on the page that appears when you are approved for the account. It says: Your new account is open and ready to use. Print this page for your records
Thanks, I guess I missed it. I’ll wait until my statement comes then.
Just spoke to the branch manager. He said that the option to link the external accounts will be available 10 days after account opening.
I had an account with them many years ago. It looks like they won’t allow to open another one. Anyway, if I remember correctly, there was no promo code back then, you just had to apply within the (unstated) time period.
You can definitely open another account after closing a previous one, at least in a branch. I just opened my third, closed the last one a few years ago. Only bonus eligible once the previous account has been closed for 24 months, as DoC’s post indicates.
I plan to test this by trying online next month as I closed my last account over 24 months ago. Was there a banner or flyer about the offer in the branch?
If not, did the rep in the branch confirm with you that the promo is still active? The reason I ask is because of this comment: #2067551 .
That’s great to hear that the offer is still available.
BTW, your story reminds me of my last churn with Trustco. I went inside and immediately recognized the banker that I had the previous time.
I didn’t try to hide from it and pointed out that I had opened my account with him last time. We both even remembered each other’s names. The best part was that it wasn’t awkward at all as he was very cool about it. 😀
Was your Chex frozen or unfrozen when you applied as a former customer? Was your Chex pulled by Flushing in-branch?
It was not frozen. It looks like I do have an inquiry on my report from Flushing now. They can’t possibly be Chex-sensitive based on what the rest of my report looks like.
I wasn’t concerned about Flushing being Chex-sensitive as I don’t think that they are. I was hoping to avoid a Chex hit like
Bertrand did. Do you think that it’s too big of a risk to apply with my Chex frozen like he did?
Can you clarify what you mean by “[i]t looks like they won’t allow to open another one”?
No cc funding. Application required min $25 deposit from bank routing number.
Applied 5/25 in NYC footprint, submitted ID, went into pending.
No good OOS. But looks to be available online if you’re in one of the eligible counties.
“Only residents of certain counties within New York and New Jersey are eligible to open Flushing Bank accounts.”
From first page of online application.
Applied online evening of 5/14, in footprint as NYC resident, this put me at 32 inquiries on chex report (4 in 2025, 3 in may 2025)
Unfroze chex but all credit bureaus were frozen, got a “reviewing your application we will respond in 2 days”
Received OnAlert inquiry immediately. received acceptance email nearly 24 hours later (somebody must’ve been working late)
“Hi Parker Your new Complete Checking account has been opened”
Doing DDs with Sequence. (1 to go)
Will update if I have any issues getting the bonus
Found this DDG article from 2017 that has an (albeit grainy) photo of a form that reads
Get rewarded for Referring a Friend
Flushing Bank customers and their friends will both receive $25 when a new Flushing Bank checking account relationship is established.*
So, if this is still accurate, all you’d need is name/phone number from the referrer, but you’d definitely need to open in branch to get the extra $25.
If anyone is planning to go in branch to open anyways, feel free to get in touch for my info
Update: Referral offer is DEAD, stack is impossible
I noticed that you wrote “in branch?”. What makes me you think that the offer might only be available in-branch? I have signed up online for a previous Flushing offer and plan to do the same for this one.
Because it’s a flyer without a promo code? How would the bonus be applied?
There is a “Click to Open A New Account” button on the “flyer” that leads to an account opening screen for a “Complete Checking” account.
There are many offers that you post that don’t have a promo code. How is this offer different from all of those?
Because this is a pdf and the click to open account button doesn’t have any tracking prefilled so I’m not confident it will track. Flushing have also kept up older mailers that aren’t active anymore in the past.
That’s quite concerning that they do that. I might contact CS to confirm that it is a valid offer before applying.
