The Offer
Check your Office Depot/Max store for the following deal:
- Buy $300 in Visa gift cards and get $15 discounted instantly at the register.
The Fine Print
- In-store only
Our Verdict
Buy a $200 Visa gift card and a $100 Visa gift card or buy two $200 Visa gift cards. The best way to maximize is to buy three $200 Visa gift cards. It should be possible to get more than one $15 discount in a single checkout.
Fees are $5-$8 per card, but can be more-than-offset by this $15 instant discount. They usually offer a deal the week following Staples.
Use a card like the INK Cash/Plus which earns 5x at office supply stores. Also note, Dosh offers 2% back at Office Depot/Max and Rakuten in-store offers 5x/5%, though the terms on these exclude gift cards from earning. Some people might have a Chase Offer/Bank Amerideals for Office Depot as well.

Has anyone had luck purchasing “Visa 5% back” cards that qualify for this promotion? That’s the only 200 visas my local store has in stock usually.
Those should work. Try it on 3 x 200, look for the discount on the POS display before you insert your CC. Good luck!!!
They worked for me. Have a higher fee than the cards I usually go for, but it still works out to be profitable.
Has anyone had luck purchasing “Visa 5% back “ cards with this promotion?
Went to local Office Depot on Friday and saw they had a placard advertising the $15 off for $300 worth of Mastercard Gift Cards. Chose not to get any because they seemed to have a lot of Gift Cards in stock of both VISA and Mastercard, so I suspect not many churn in my area. Went back today and asked the cashier how many I could have and was told “unlimited”. The placard still showed Mastercard, but I took the risk and got 9 VISA cards (I wanted more but didn’t want to risk going over 10 which the sign showed as the limit). $1800 and I was able to get them with the $90 discount (plus $71.45 for the activation fees) for a total cost of $1781.55 ($18.55 profit).
Did this to work on my Ink SUB primarily but the small profit is also nice. Had to call the number on the cards to activate them (the website didn’t work).
Also went to another location but they had no advertisement so I chose not to spend another $1200 to max out my Ink card. I’ll just work on organically spending my gift cards till this comes back in a month or so. Got one to work at Costco and another grocery so far. (This is my first time doing it so glad to see it work since I don’t usually use gift cards haha.)
Does anyone know if a cashier lets you get any amount you want that you’re able?
Official corporate policy is $2k/day, promo or not, to appease FinCEN. There are stores that will sell you more, but they are definitely hanging out on a limb if they do. Also, many buyers encounter stores with arbitrary lower limits… generally imposed, IMO, out of ignorance or because they gain some sense of power in their miserable jobs by pretending they are protecting to company from ne’er do wells. If you encounter a store doing this, just move on. Raising a stink just ruins it for everyone else.
/2 cents
Honestly, I read a lot of experiences prior to doing this first run so I was prepared for every scenario. I didn’t want to coldly go up to the register with a ton of cards cause I felt that might be suspicious and turn someone into the kinds you read about online (that restrict sales or later hide the cards haha.) I went up with a weird screenshot someone took of a placard somewhere else and said I “found this ad” for a promotion and was kindly directed to the gift card area. I made friendly conversation throughout to appear more professional, stating I was using these for my business (which is not totally false…I will likely load some on Amazon for purchases). The manager was called over for the large order and I commented on her typing prowess and how they had nice printers for people over in the corner but the register one was from like the 80’s. I felt like this made it less weird to them and less likely for them to gain an unease over time if me or others were to partake further in their location lol. Thanks for the informative comment! = )
I am glad it worked out and thanks for the laugh
I do all that myself, or try to, if only to appease my own anxiety.
Even if you’re not doing anything wrong even looking a bit anxious can draw attention to self and make you more nervous, which itself can make you look suspicious
People working retail do appreciate being tested as equals, I’ve found. Which I mean, they are lol
Also good on you for setting good example for fellow churners and representing us well lol
The amount you can buy at each store depends on that particular store’s policy. However, the promotion ends at $3,000. That limit is programmed into all checkout registers irregardless which store you shop at
but just curious.. what do u guys do with so many visa gift cards? send it back to bank accounts or use it in different ways..
To meet the sign up bonus.
Use (Ink Cash) to purchase Visa gc then use it at Costco to stack another 2% as Executive member (total 7%)
Also use it to pay utilities/insurance bills for 5%.
Buy things.
Geico accepts em for payment
But other places like my rent portal don’t. Limited use as such to me
Pay estimated taxes.
Which payment processor and how much are the fees? Assuming you run this as credit card or debit card
You can look it up on the IRS website – irs.gov/payments
I know, but these darn cards get rejected at half the places I try to use them. Which of the two payment processors take it and at what fee is what I was looking for as DP
I found Vanilla gift cards got rejected from both Pay1040 and ACI payment processors but the visa/MC gift cards purchased from office stores were processed fine. Pay1040 charges $2.15 and ACI charges $2.1 as debit card.
You’re supposedly only allowed 2 estimated payments per quarter – have you found a way around that? I’ve never tried making more than 2, maybe I should?
Pay my monthly utility bill
Hookers and blow
I only just got Gift Cards to use for the first time and I’ve already found an overpowered use (for normal shopping.) I have a store near me that doesn’t accept credit cards, which in part lets them have the lowest prices for food in the area (if the theory about stores that accept credit cards raising prices by 3% or so is true.) Due to the fact I’m able to get 5% on the Gift Cards, and this store accepts them, I get 5% at a grocery store that has amazing prices compared to the competition (I think it’s even cheaper than 3% cause they’re run like a Costco) and has always felt terrible using my Debit card at (literally the only time I spend on that thing.)
haha..thx!! got so many handy n hilarious responses.. seems this is much better https://www.doctorofcredit.com/mastercardgiftcard-com-buy-100-giftcard-get-10-giftcard-for-free/
Deal is on. Just got my $600 for $593
Its back. Got few today
Has anyone gotten the promotion today?
Yes. Promotion applied at the checkout. I live in Austin, Texas
Thank you
Deal is on at my office max starting today. I just purchased $600 in visa cards and received $30 off.
This is the same location that last week did not have the MasterCard promotion advertised, and the staff said they didn’t think so but they didn’t know, so I did not try.
Is this deal available today?
Yes
02/16/2025 – Visa gift card deal is back this week. Just purchased $600 and the discount applied.
