Office Max: $15 Off $300 on Mastercard Gift Cards

The Offer

  • Purchase $300 worth of Mastercard gift cards at Office Max and receive an instant $15 discount.

This offer isn’t published in the ads, but it’s showing up at Office Max stores.

You can purchase two $200 Mastercard gift cards and the total will come out to 398.90 after the $15 promo kicks in. Or you can buy one $200 card and one $100 card for $297.90.

You can then use the Mastercards to do things like load your REDbird card at Target or load your Bluebird/Serve at the Walmart Money Center ATM. (At the Walmart registers they don’t work as smoothly.) The PIN number comes on a little slip of paper inside the p

The Fine Print

  • Valid 8/2/15/-8/8/15
  • Be sure to check verify that your local store has this deal running
  • Limit one per household/business

Stacking the Deal

Some of you may still have some Amex cards with a saved Amex Offer of $10 off $50 at Office Max/Depot and this deal can really make that offer worthwhile.

The best way to maximize this would be to split the payment between multiple Amex cards which have this offer. We know that the Office Depot POS allows us to split payment between at least 8 cards, but it’s unclear what the Office Max system will allow. [UPDATE: A reader reports that you can split at least 5 ways at Office Max.]

Our Verdict

This is a great deal for maximizing credit card rewards on the INK cards. And it’s awesome for using up those Amex Offers, as noted.

Be sure to head over there as soon as you can, before they run out of Mastercard gift cards. Since the offer goes on until 8/8/15, hopefully there will still be time for them to reload and give us another run on those cards.

Of course the big limit here is one-per-household, but that’s up to the cashier to enforce and you may get lucky there. For all we know, it could be that you can even do the deal twice in one transaction, but we assume that this won’t work since there’s a stated limit of one-per-household.

This offer is definately not limited to one per household, today is my third day of going in and buying 30+. The manager is ok with me doing it multiple times and likes that it helps “pat his sales”.

Went to my local OM and purchased 3 $200s and the register took off $30. It required a manager override. When the manager got there he yelled at the cashier and said she should have only applied 1 $15 discount since it’s limit 1. She humbly told him that she didn’t do anything and the register automatically did it. He was about to figure out how to remove one of the discounts manually but after a minute or so he caved and let me have it, but told me I can’t come back and buy more. Whatevs, I hate overzealous managers.

Can confirm 4x$200 MGC received $30 off the total in one transaction.

The picture of the sign was photographed by my friend @iampatty4 btw 🙂 I had shared it with Oren.
Max $30 off $600 in one txn confirmed to work, and multiple txn YMMV.
There are more Office Depots than Maxes here, and they do not carry MCs unfortunately.

My local Office Depot only had VGCs. The Office Max had both. I was able to successfully buy 3-$200s and get the $15 off for $300 twice in the same transaction. Pushed it a little more, but I was only able to get $30 off $600 — would not repeat again for $45 off $900. So the $15 off $300 cards can be doubled to $30 off $600. This was at a central California location.

Does Visa Gift Card qualify for this offer? My officemax does not have Mastercard.

no problem splitting tender between 5 cards today in denver (4 AmEx, 1 Ink). limit one $15 off was enforced, but the store was already pretty bare.

I was able to split tender between 6 cards, but the woman that was checking me out received a stern warning from her coworker that she should not allow split tender for gift cards.

For the first time I have been unable to unload these (as debit) to Serve at Walmart. Has anyone else had this problem recently; and if so, where might I have better luck?

Any word on whether this works at Office Depot as well? A few of those around me, no OM worth the drive for me.

I found that the MC cards from this OM purchase and the previous Staples deal are being a serious pain in the ass to liquidate. At Target, the card reader keeps saying the PIN is incorrect. Even if you call to set it, it will say it’s inaccurate. I had to call and unlock one card after a third attempt licked it up. I took a week and six visits until I could unload all four I bought last time and I had the same issue when I visited Target today. Never had this problem with Visa GCs.
