Our Verdict
Really easy requirements to get the bonus and also no need to worry about monthly fees makes this a great deal, we’ll definitely be adding it to our best bank bonus list if we can confirm it’s a soft pull to open, even better if you can fund with a credit card. Hopefully it will get extended again.
Thanks, Curm!
This is expired now.
I opened my account with a $5k deposit from my Citi HH Reserve Visa on Tuesday. This morning it posted as a purchase on my credit card account. Easy way to complete 1/8 of the spending I need for HH Diamond status for 2017.
Soft pull to open?
I didn’t see any pull on any credit report, so I’m assuming that it’s a soft pull.
Opened up an account, tried using my United MP Explorer card. I lowered the CA limit to $100 earlier in the day and tried to fund for $4500 twice. Both times I got a message “We were unable to verify the credit or debit card information you provided.” After the second time it wouldn’t let me fund with a CC. So maybe it did try to post as a cash advance?
Thanks a lot for the data point. I was about to try it out then I saw our post.. If cc funding is a no-go, I would probably pass
Data point: I just did a live chat with an S&T representative to ask whether there’s a credit pull involved, he spoke to one of the bankers and said it wouldn’t affect your credit report and that there was no credit check. The representative I spoke to didn’t seem to know about hard vs. soft pulls, but from what he said I inferred there’s at the very least no hard pull.
Any news on this, particularly whether it’s a hard/soft pull and whether CC funding counts as a cash advance? I’m thinking of opening this up and funding with Chase MileagePlus Explorer.
Let us know which cards you fund with and if it codes as a cash advance. Looks like only 3 days left to open and fund account!
Thanks for the post!
Looks like the account can be funded up to $5,000 with Visa/MC.

Testing it out with $5,000 on my Chase Ink Plus.

Thanks, updating now. Let us know if purchase/cash advance and also whether a hard or soft pull.
Submitted the app and got an “Unfortunately, we cannot process your application. For assistance, please contact us at 800.325.2265.”
There is actually an S&T in my city. Thinking it might be from my chex systems, as I’ve opened 9 other accounts YTD.
What happened when you called?
Same thing happened to me. I called and they emailed me requesting my DL and what I want my pin to be.
Soft pulls? Did you fund with CC?
They are sending an envelope with the signature page and I send $ back in that. Not clear if that can be CC. Haven’t checked pull.
Yup, just called today and they needed address verification which I emailed. Not sure what triggered it, but it was quick to fix it. Felt weird emailing them my PIN though.
I also confronted this message. I called in and spoke with 3 people over two days. No one knew what to do. Eventually I was transferred to a banker to just do a new application. My application was denied because I was over 20 miles from their nearest branch.
