Avoiding Fees
They offer a free checking account with no monthly fees. There was no mention of an early account termination fee in their fee schedule found here.
Our Verdict
There isn’t much time left in this bonus. They offered a bonus of $100 last year, but direct deposit wasn’t required. The fact they offer $5,000 in credit card funding and it’s a soft pull is what makes the deal a great one. If you’re interested you don’t have much time left, so get on it! We will be adding this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

I was going to ask if it was worth opening a second account just for the funding but this already seems like a bust. Sorry to hear people are having so much trouble.
I got the same error msg saying:
“Thank you for your interest in opening a new account.
> Unfortunately, we cannot process your application.
> For assistance, please contact us at 800.325.2265.”
I called in and was told that they won’t open an account for me because I live in Philadelphia which is not near any of their branches.
I didn’t even get to the funding step, and I got the following error:
> Thank you for your interest in opening a new account.
> Unfortunately, we cannot process your application.
> For assistance, please contact us at 800.325.2265.
Oh well.
See my comment above – I got the same message, and had to call.

Literally the comment before mine. I can’t see.
I just called and they said they couldn’t verify my id. It’s probably because I just renewed my driver’s license.
They want a picture of my id and social security card.
Same here, needed to email a picture of my license and social security number, then sign and fax a document back to them. Also, no CC funding once you have call as was mentioned above.
It might not have shown up when you originally posted.
Data point: I tried to sign up online, and was told “Unfortunately, we cannot process your application.” Calling the number on the page eventually routed me to someone who claimed my information “was close to” an entry on the OFAC list.
After confirming what I would need to open the account, I inquired about credit card funding. In this specific case, where the process isn’t automated, the reps are unable to do a credit card fund in any amount. I was told I could visit a branch in person, but doing so would code the transaction as a cash advance.
Probably not a situation that the majority of people will run into, but the information may prove useful to someone.
So is it confirmed that they now only allow $100 cc funding?
did anyone see anywhere mentioning the locations restricted to OH and PA only?
I don’t live in those regions and I think the fact that it allows 5k cc funding is attractive enough!
When you open an account the “Important Information Regarding Electronic Disclosures” page has a list of terms at the bottom. The sixth and final term reads “I am a resident of Pennsylvania or Ohio.”
Thank you! Ah I wish I could jump on this one.
Credit card limit is now $100.
I too had the $100 credit card funding limit, but I wonder if that was due to erroneously opening a Student & Checking account, which I do not believe is eligible for this bonus.
It wasn’t obvious to me that I had selected the Student & Checking type account until I was at the funding page. I suspect I may have answered the questions about the banking services I need too honestly (i.e. no wire transfers, low direct deposit amount, etc), so they relegated me to the most basic account.
I called the bank and they switched my account type to Checking & Simple. The personal banker I spoke to couldn’t confirm whether I would still be eligible for the bonus, but told me that she’d have a marketing person call me back about it. We shall see…
Also just a head’s up that there’s a $3 monthly inactivity fee for Bill Pay. I declined with the intention of opting-in just before I close the account (due to the $3 outbound transfer fee).
You’re right, I accidentally signed up for that even though I’m too old to hold the account. Very tricky application, it looks like you can only select the account type by switching the selection on the left on the first page of the application. No idea if that changes the CC funding limit.
It doesn’t change the CC funding limit. I switched mine to Checking & Simple and was still only allowed to fund $100 on a CC
An update: They closed my account (and mailed me back my initial deposit) because I do not live in their service area, even though I do live in Ohio.
