Paypal Has Discontinued In Store Payments

Paypal has announced that as of March 31st it has discontinued in store payments. You can no longer use a phone number/PIN or special payment codes in store to pay with your PayPal account. The following message now appears:

In-store acceptance methods mobile phone number + PIN & the payment code feature in the PayPal Mobile app will no longer be available in the US after March 31st, 2018.

The main reason we care is that for quarter two Chase is offering 5x points on the Chase Freedom on PayPal purchases, so this in store method will no longer be an option to max out your $1,500 in spend.

its hilarious to hear people sad about this piece of shit feature. nobody gives a crap about PP in store payments. many didnt even know it existed. u guys know PP is a massive online payment processor right? go buy something online.

also, nobody should be putting in their phone number and pin at a random POS terminal thats probably already hacked. i guess people enjoy living on the edge.

DP: The PayPal app allowed me to pay at DG in store using my freedom card. However, the CSR said that it can’t process PayPal even though the terminal gave me the option. Seems like it’s hard coded.

I found this out on Sunday, while at the counter at Home Depot. Oh well, there goes free money!

I looked stupid at DG while telling the cashier that the in-store button had disappeared. She had no clue about it.

PayPal works with Google Pay. I think it should work if the default payment method in PP is the freedom card.

My understanding is that it doesn’t work that way. It seems like Paypal in Google Pay draws from your Paypal balance and then, if one has insufficient balance, draws from a debit card or checking account to replenish the account. So it can’t be used with the Freedom.

I just tested this by buying a drink at Walgreens and it did subtract from my PayPal balance, even though my defaults for purchases are to the freedom card.

Soon as we have a PayPal category on the Freedom… what the hell!
