Can someone please provide a DP about whether opening a checking account just before applying for the CC waives the first annual fee or not? Wondering if its worth taking some time to setup the checking first or not to bother and go straight to CC (plus checking at the same time)

Has anyone received the $100 airline credit in 2025? I purchased a $100 AA gc online on 1/7/2025 and have not received the credit yet on my Penfed Pathfinder Visa card.

I made a $50 United TB purchase over a week ago and still haven’t received anything. Getting nervous. Please update if your credit posts

I purchased a $100 AA gc online 1 day after Jim did. I just checked and I still haven’t received the credit. I’m not nervous yet as it took about 2 weeks back in 2021 so there’s still hope!

Finally posted. Although it is funny because the credit says it posted on 1/9 even though it actually took 10 days

Okay, maybe some folks experienced with PenFed can chime in here.

I was reading some old posts on previous bonuses trying to decide if I should hold out for a new member bonus THEN do the credit card…or just establish membership with the credit card and hope for a new checking offer later…

Several of the bank bonuses I read about on this site were targeted…implying that you need to already be a member to qualify…has that been the general experience for folks?

It seems a bit circular. The terms I read on one of the targeted offers said you had to open a “new checking account”. So…would that mean opening a second checking account if you are already a member?

I don’t know if my question makes sense. Their terms just seem different than most….they don’t “exclude” current checking holders, but why would they give you a bonus to have a second of the same account type?

I have had several targeted offers on my existing credit cards, Checking & Savings accounts. I wish that all FIs were as generous as PF.

Well, to answer your (and someone else’s below) question about the new attendant checking account timing –
I recently got a Pathfinder card. I can’t remember why, maybe a tech issue, but I ended up setting it up on the phone, and the Access checking account was instantly set up at the same time. I was also already a member so could shift funds over, not sure if that makes any difference. Overall, very easy process.

Not only is the card free, if you keep $500 in a checking account, but you get the Global Entry/TSA Precheck credit, $100/y airline credit, and probably the only sub $500/y credit card with airport lounge access. (free membership, one free visit/y, then requires an additional fee). Plus coverage for trip delay, rental cars and no ftf. I think this card is definitely under the radar.

I also am not aware of any new member signup offers or referral offers, but others may know more about this. They did have a bonus offer last year for depositing new money.

Denied for p2 750credit score with both checking and savings penfed accounts.
Nb : I had to open cfpb for savings bonus never given, same for checking cfpb opened 4 months after bonus supposed to get, they gave 3 different versions on the phone and cfpb answer. So after pressured phone calls, they paid the checking bonus 1 week ago (checking account opened in January)
Very bad experience for us. We will close all accounts Monday.
However 400$ looks a pretty nice bonus if you can remove the AF.

Got denied for this today 9/6/24. I am not a churner, with only 3 current cards (one of which is PenFed Platinum Rewards at 12.5k limit. I have a 800+ credit score across all bureaus so I was a bit floored by this denial. Called PenFed customer service, but they dont have a reconsideration process and didnt get anywhere with that. Only thing I can guess is that they dont want to extend additional credit to someone who already as a card?? No clue, but apply with caution.

How soon do the points post after meeting spending? I have met the spending, but there is a return for a small amount that will bring it back below the spending requirement (about $30 below.)

Does anyone know how timing works with regards to signing up for both this card + the checking account to waive the annual fee? Do I need to sign up for the checking acct a certain number of days in advance, or would same day be fine, or even after to make sure I’m actually approved? (Can’t imagine I wouldn’t be but that’d be annoying on the off chance)

To answer part of my own question, digging around in the T&C reveals that you definitely need the checking acct before, but still not sure how much before.
Also, @WilliamCharles the link for info on becoming a member is dead, here’s what might be the new link: https://www.penfed.org/credit-cards/honors-advantage-points
Edit: Ok, I don’t know how @ s work on here, hopefully someone sees that eventually haha
