Our Verdict
Pepper has been offering some nice deals lately, one per day, with no purchase limit. We had Lowe’s at 10% back, then Uber at 15% back, then Amazon at 10% back, and today it’s Airbnb at 10% back. Obviously the Amazon deal from yesterday was the biggest surprise, but all of these can be useful to some.
Use your Amex Business Gold to earn 4x if it’s one of your top two categories or use a card with a bonus for Online Shopping. Or just use your regular daily driver credit card.
Reports are that Amex Business Gold to earn 4x if it’s one of your top two categories. And reports are that it counts as Online Shopping for BofA cards and Blue Cash card and ShopYourWay card. And it counts as Computer Software category for BofA Customized Cash Rewards cards.
The 5% back you can immediately use to buy more gift cards; the bonus 5% we’ll have to wait until July 15th to get. (New members who signup with a referral code always get 10% on all gift card purchases for 15 days; I’m unsure if they’ll get 15% with this deal; let us know if you verified this point.)
Note: while there is no purchase limit for this deal, the app does have undisclosed overall volume limits of how much a customer can purchase. Possibly $5,000 or some other amount, depending on the account. You might be able to get limits increased by calling in.
My thanks if you enter my signup code 584255 during the initial signup process. No referral links or references in the comments below, please.
I got a message that they could not add my card because of a data leak. Anyone got the same?
The DP that I want to share, at least from when I bought a Burger King gift card the other day using my Chase Freedom Unlimited Visa about how it coded:
Description: APP* PEPPER-BURGER KIN
Also known as: APP PEPPER BURGER KIN
Merchant type: Computer software stores
Method: Online, mail or phone
Category: Shopping
** I am curious how it codes using a Discover Card or other bank Visa cards.
FYI, Pepper codes as ” Computer Software Stores” for the Bank of America Biz Advantage Customized Cash Rewards card. Code is 5734 which falls under the Computer Software category for 3% back or 6% for anyone that was targeted for the extra 3% cash back boost.
Added a note, thx
New to Pepper. What does it mean “payment must be made using your Pepper Rewards account to qualify.”?
No idea. I guess just that you have to be logged in (of course you’d have to be logged in, anyway, in order to process the payment, so I’m guessing it doesn’t mean much). Just pay with the app and you should get credit fine, I’ve never had an issue.
I only got 1x points for an AirBnB purchase. Do the 2x points post later?
Yes. July 15th
Just signed up for an account to buy Airbnb gift cards.. Tried 10x and each time AmEx is declined. I called AMEx and they said the decline isn’t coming from AmEx. Any ideas how to finish the purchase?
I don’t understand how it works. I signed up for an account, made two purchases each earning 100x points. In the second purchase, I used points from first purchase, but the App deducted 10,000 points for $5 discount. Shouldn’t it have been 5,000 points for $5 credit?
It’s not 1 cent per point
If points are worth 0.5 cents, then isn’t it only 5% off with the double points ?
A 500 GC shows 50000 points for a new user which is worth only $25, right ?
Am I missing something ?
The other $25 will post on July 15th. It’s in the article
Yeah, I re-read the article after I posted. Still unsure if new users will get 15% off or just the 10%. My guess is just 10%.
Correction: There is a limit (personal limit per 24 hours) and a supposed limit on quantity as outlined in the offer.
What is the personal limit?
$5K/24 hours per product.
I’ll add a note
I only discovered the Pepper app yesterday (with the Amazon promo). If these promos continue (or even if they don’t), I now feel like I need to have a business gold solely for this.
Getting effectively 10% bonus (or 5% bonus regularly) + 4x MR points on Amazon and AirBnB is huge. (I just checked and I’ve averaged ~12k per year combined across the 2 of them for the last 4 years).
Bank of America cash rewards also gives 3% CB for pepper under the “online shopping” category. Can be even more if you have a ML account and meet the deposit requirement
I finally secured an ABG last night and immediately bought over $5K from Pepper for this reason. I’ve been waiting to get one to time an opportunity like this to coincide with reaching a SUB in the shortest amount of time.
doesn’t amex normally shut down for stuff like that?
Sounds like a great way to have Amex claw back the SUB
Did you get the 4x bonus category for your purchase? Mine is only 1x.
Update: now it shows 4x.
