The Offer
Pepper app is offering the following deals for August 16 – 18:
- Get 15% back on Instacart gift card purchases. Limit $2,000 each day.
- Get 20% back on Old Navy, Puma, and Allbirds. No limit.
- Get 15% back on REI. No limit.
The standard Pepper points will be instantly available and the bonus Pepper points will be awarded on 8/31 for Instacart and 9/2 for the other brands mentioned.
Our Verdict
Myself and many others are locked out of Pepper due to password issues – they’re apparently experiencing technical difficulties for the past few days.
Reports are that Amex Business Gold to earn 4x if it’s one of your top two categories. And reports are that it counts as Online Shopping for BofA cards and Blue Cash card and ShopYourWay card. And it counts as Computer Software category for BofA Customized Cash Rewards cards and for 1.5x on the Business Platinum card.
15% off Instacart is pretty good, especially if you combine it with a credit bonus category. That said, the bonus points won’t be available for two weeks which makes the deals somewhat less interesting.
My thanks if you enter my signup code 584255 during the initial signup process. Those who signup with a referral code get double Pepper points on all purchases for 15 days. (Not clear whether these bonus deals will be doubled.) No referral links or references in the comments below, please.
Instacart GC are still 20% off at Costco. Limit 2 per customer but I’ve been able to buy the max every day for 3 days straight
Anyone else having issues getting into your Pepper account? I keep getting an error about my password not meeting Pepper’s new PW requirements. I changed it (several times now) to meet the requirements, and continue to get the message. Calling support goes right to voicemail. I want to cash out before they go under!

Got a second email this week from Pepper about them adjusting points from a promo, this time deducting. Precisely it was adding missing points. But, they don’t say which promo, what was the mistake, how much was deducted, nothing. There’s absolutely no accounting for their points. It’s impossible to track.
Make sure you only buy from them if you’re ok with the base rate.

Same for Uber for the previous Uber promo.
Anyone want to help me understand the “real” value of a $100 instacart GC? You get 15x points, is that equal to $15 of gift card credit on pepper?

For some reason I’m only seeing 3x points on Instacart and 6x points on REI on the home screen. If I click in, they say “Deal: 15x points”, but the math below it still only works out to be 3x and 6x. Anyone know what’s going on here?
Is it because the bonus points are deposited later, so not shown in the math? i.e. 3x points today and 15x additional points depositing Sept 2?
So what exactly is going on here, how can they afford this? These offers are very good especially since you can combine them with Rakuten/Topcashback and get even more cashback?
You can combine them with Rakuten? Like at the actual store right?
Then the funding/losses would be coming from two different areas.
I assume it’s another goofy VC business operating at a loss to acquire a customer base and later they will gut the rewards to try to make a profit and the company will fail because the business model sucks.
These heavily subsidized rates are wealth transfers from the ultra wealthy VCs to the middle class though, so sounds great to me. Just make sure to spend your rewards points regularly so you aren’t left holding the bag.
15% off Instacart is nothing special. Costco sells them for 20% off (but smaller quantities).
I’m more worried about Amazon 10% off and such.
In store Costco has not limited me on Instacart gift card buys.

THe premise is you get the gift card, then when you buy goods you go through the portal and use a gift card.
