Our Verdict

The Amazon deal is excellent. It’s slated to end at 11:59pm ET tonight 8/25/24, though it usually sells out earlier. Some other interesting deals too.

Just keep in mind that the bonus points won’t be available for a few weeks, and I wouldn’t recommend buying unless you can manage the risk of something going wrong with the bonus points posting a few weeks down the line. I’d recommend screenshotting and copying the gift card info immediately, and I’d also recommend using up the Pepper points quickly, since people have had issues logging in, etc.

Reports are that Amex Business Gold  to earn 4x if it’s one of your top two categories. And reports are that it counts as Online Shopping for BofA cards and Blue Cash card and ShopYourWay card. And it counts as Computer Software category for BofA Customized Cash Rewards cards and for 1.5x on the Business Platinum card.

Note: While there is no limit to these deals, you might be limited in overall quantities that can be purchased from Pepper in a day. So you might only get $2,000 or some other number until the app stops you. It’s sometimes possible to increase limits by calling in and verifying.

My thanks if you enter my signup code 584255 during the initial signup process. Those who signup with a referral code get double Pepper points on all purchases for 15 days. (Not clear whether these bonus deals get doubled.) No referral links or references in the comments below, please.

First line is “The Amazon deal is excellent.” And I didn’t get 4x I got 8x immediately.

You got 8x because new users get double points for the first 15 days.

Yea, a whole paragraph and scroll past a full screen ad. Weird of you get snarky about that though, considering it’s still not clear how many points new users will even end up with. Will I end up only getting the double (so 8k), the 8k plus 6k (the body everyone else is getting in a few weeks), or 20k (double the 10x advertised).

But ok I guess I’m the jerk

naw, it’s just a communication error here. I think anyone would be frustrated when they were expecting to get 10% back on a gift card and then turns out they’re only getting 4%. this is pepper’s fault though for not being upfront about sign up bonuses making it so you wont get the extra points on daily deals!

Melon

i think people are only recently realizing that the sign up bonuses preclude you from getting the daily deals. i had the 10x points for everything sub and figured it’d stack with the 10x amazon daily deal. in reality the 10x everything just gives you 10 points and prevents you from getting the 20 points you’d normally get from a 10x daily deal.

so when i bought on the 10x amazon daily deal, i was expecting at least 20 points per dollar (which would be 10% back like everyone is saying). in reality i only got 10 points which equals 5% because of my sub.

i was miffed when i realized this, but i’m only annoyed at pepper for it because they should be more upfront that sign up bonuses do NOT stack with the daily deals. maybe your 2x sub will be different though and you’ll get double (so 40 points) but i doubt it.

either way, may be worth DoC adding a note moving forward that having a signup bonus on your account means you won’t get the extra points from 10/15/20x deals. i would’ve liked to know that but i think people just didnt realize until recently

Just seems strange to me to get upset about something when you haven’t even bothered to read the article.

Whatever man, no one’s upset. I have to say, I have been coming to this site for almost a decade and love the content, but the few times I’ve interacted with you in the comments, you have this weird passive aggressive attitude that I really don’t get. You do you it’s working I guess, but just input from a long time reader.

None of us know because DoC isn’t a new user and DPs for the new signup bonuses haven’t come in yet.

Pepper doesn’t work. I tried one card, apparently it gave an error that was it in a data leak. I tried my other card, and it doesn’t go through. Both are premium travel cards. Pepper blows.

I never seem to see these deals any more. Or, do they still display the standard 4% for Amazon and I’m supposed to believe I’ll see that extra 6% later?

Melon
Melon (@guest_1899182)
August 25, 2024 14:39

it’ll show 4x until you click into it to buy it, where it’ll show Deal 10x on the purchase screen under the mount. but yes you’ll only get 4x immediately and the 6x later

How does the double points for two weeks (new user) stack with the bonus offers? Is it only 2x base or 2x the bonus offer?

Melon
Melon (@guest_1899353)
August 25, 2024 21:50

it doesn’t in my experience! I had the 10x on everything as a sign up bonus, and only got 10 points on amazon purchases. whereas if you buy when amazon is on a special marked 10x deal, you actually get 20 points. so i’d have been better off not even doing the sign up bonus – i was annoyed when i realized this. i bought a couple hundred and was only getting 5% back versus an actual 10% if i had just done one of the daily deals.

but if youre doing the double points sign up bonus, maybe its different and it will double the 10x. i don’t have experience with that sub. i doubt it though.

idk i think they purposefully make it confusing so you think you’re getting a great deal with the sign up bonuses when in reality you’d be better off waiting for the specific 10-15x deals on individual brands

When you search for the merchant, it’ll show the non-bonus rate on the image. When you click on it, it’ll then show the bonus rate. Amazon is still 10X as of now

Not available for new users since you get double cashback

If that’s the reason it makes sense but kind of silly because these deals are still better than the double points

Gift card can be used for money laundering.
Let me give quick easy example.
Person A buys gift card and uses his money.
Person A gives gift card to person B.
Person B sells gift card and gets cash.
There is no link between person A and person B exchanging money yet person A is able to give large sum of untraceable money to person B, minus any fees.

Cash is tangible. You can get caught. You need to deliver personally.
Crypto currency makes it much easier now but still as alternative to untraceable trade between 2 parties.
Let’s say you have something digital you want to sell me (pirated software/stolen cc/illegal videos) and I need to pay you.
If I send you gift card that you can sell, we can trade without revealing our identities.
Not saying it’s ideal method, but gift cards are one of the means to do it, especially before the popularity of crypto.

Decorative corn picks can be used for money laundering.
Let me give quick easy example.
Person A buys decorative corn picks and uses his money.
Person A gives decorative corn picks to person B.
Person B sells decorative corn picks and gets cash.
There is no link between person A and person B exchanging money yet person A is able to give large sum of untraceable money to person B, minus losses on massive bulk order of corn picks.

Hmm I checked CardCash. They don’t allow selling decorative corn picks. Not sure how you would. Heck I didn’t even know what they were before today.
I’ll stick to gift cards and save myself the hassle for mailing it and revealing my identity to the buyer.
