Macy’s/Plenti has sent out an e-mail letting people know that:
- Starting 3/15/18 you’ll no longer earn Plenti points on Macy’s purchases
- Starting 5/3/18 you’ll no longer be able to redeem Plenti points on Macy’s purchases
This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, even American Express is removing Plenti as a Membership Rewards transfer partner. Rite Aid has also left the program along with a number of other partners.
Chili’s has now exited the building as well:
We are thankful for your participation in My Chili’s Rewards, and we value your feedback. We frequently evaluate My Chili’s Rewards based on customer feedback, and have decided that Chili’s will no longer be a participating Plenti partner after May 3, 2018.
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?
• You can earn Plenti points on eligible purchases at participating Chili’s restaurants through March 15, 2018.
• You can redeem Plenti points on eligible purchases at participating Chili’s restaurants through May 3, 2018. As always, you need to complete enrollment in Plenti and have at least 200 points to use points for savings on eligible purchases.
• After May 3, 2018, Plenti members will continue to have access to any available points and can use those points for savings on eligible purchases at participating Exxon and Mobil gas stations, Rite Aid stores and Bi-Lo, Winn-Dixie, and Harveys supermarkets.
• Everything else you love about being a My Chili’s Rewards member remains.
just buy something in Macy’s in April, return it in May, you will get Cash or Macy’s gift card.

Well, I definitely was an ideal, situational member. I worked right next to a rite aid, would hoard points on their gift card ‘deals,’ and then buy Christmas presents from Macys for the last couple of years. No longer work next to rite aid, no longer have a use for plenti. C’est la vie.

Plenti was DOA. had potential like many ideas. AMEX CEO just sucks balls. If AMEX Plat can go 1k AF and combine CSR + Citi Prestige perks, they would get so many customers they wouldnt be able to handle it.
Th e-mail that went out to Macy’s AMEX cardholders was slightly different. Ironically, it was just the last quarter of 2017 that Macy’s accelerated the earning rate of Plenti points at restaurants outside of Macy’s from 1x to 3x.
I thought it strange that Macy’s was giving more points – since so many participating companies dropped out.
It will be interesting to see how Macy’s will reward their AMEX cardholders to drive spending – and therefore fees from merchants other than Macy’s.
Personal note: If you are using the Macy’s AMEX card and not paying it off ENTIRELY each month (unless you are under a no interest plan from Macy’s, such as furniture/mattresses), the interest rate is currently a 26.49% variable APR!

Macy’s American Express® card, that appear on statements with a statement closing date prior to 3/16/2018.
• Use Plenti points for savings on qualifying purchases at Macy’s until 5/3/2018.
• Continue to use any available Plenti points that haven’t expired for savings on
eligible purchases at other participating Plenti partners after 5/3/2018.
As a valued Macy’s American Express Cardholder, you are still a top priority.
You’ll continue to get rewarded when you use your Card outside of Macy’s
but in a whole new way. Stay tuned for the exciting details and thank you for

There were some times where it made sense to earn Plenti, but 3x or 5x was necessary to justify the spend versus other cards.
Factoring 3% rewards that would otherwise be earned (cell phone or fuel) 3% is effectively 2.91%, 5% is effectively 4.85%.
Factoring 5% rewards that would otherwise earned, the effective return is 2.85% or 4.75%.
When theres a lot od xompetition to offer 3% without restrictions, 3% in Plenti didnt raise a lot of excitement.
If you were luxky enough to find coupons that offered the same discount regardless of payment, thats great, but often times using Plenti at Macys meant yiu missed out on 15 to 20 percent savings.
5/3 there’s still “plenti” of time.
Who really didn’t see this coming? These “rewards groups” (is there a better term?) never seem to do well. Companies should create their own rewards program and avoid such a hassle dealing with a 3rd party. Good plan in theory but rarely works out…
its called a coalition loyalty program. very successful in Canada. AMEX CEO must go. he sucks like an idiot. CSR shouldve never become what it is today. MAKE AMEX GREAT AGAIN!
These are also a number of successful coalition loyalty programs around Europe as well.
They could totally have done a better job at this. It’s a model you see done well all over the world. There’s Flybuys in NZ, Nektar in the UK, Aeroplan in Canada, etc.
The problem is that none of the partners went all in on Plenti. They mostly kept their own loyalty programs and left it a confusing mess of when you can earn or redeem.
For me, Plenti was half-dead when the ATT burn option was gone. Then completely dead with the Rite-Aid earn option gone.
I just need to use up my remaining points at Exxon and call it a day
I used to earn with Macy’s and ATT and redeem at Macy’s. I haven’t earned anything since they removed ATT.
