PSA: Chase Isn’t Properly Crediting The Marriott Upgrade Bonuses

Multiple readers have written in to inform me that they have only received a bonus of 10,000 points from upgrading their Chase Marriott Premier cards to Chase Marriott Premier Plus, despite their offers actually being for 20,000-50,000 points. If you have completed this upgraded and already received points, make sure you check to ensure you get the full amount and not 10,000 points. You should be able to send a secured message to get the points your owed, although some customer service representatives are wanting proof that you received a different offer (shouldn’t that be in their system?) so including a picture of your original upgrade e-mail is probably a good idea. I suspect we’d see a similar issue on the Chase IHG card if they were offering anything more than 5,000 points (sorry, I still can’t get over that pathetic offer).

I noticed only 10K on my first transaction in mhy online account. I called. CSR told me it is a glitch in their system and that I would get the 20K promised when I requested the upgrade. My statement closes June 8th, so I will be able to check then. I should have taken a screen shot when I upgraded just to be safe, but didn’t Anyway, I just made a second transaction, having verified receipt of my new card two days ago. I will report whether another 10K is noted in my online account. as Abey reports above that her 30K offer was split over two transactions.

I got an offer for 20k on the upgrade site. I called after getting the card to confirm the amount and the representative told me that I only was going to receive 10k. The representative told me he could do nothing without a screenshot (which I did not have).

Pretty pissed at Chase right now on this front. I had an offer for 30k, they’re now telling me without proof the most they can give me is 10k.

Is that even worth the annual fee? I’m going to cancel if not.

For those that are getting the points, are you having to wait till statement close for chase to credit your Marriott account or is it immediate? I had the 10k offer and completed using the old card, still no sign of points.

I made a transaction about 4 days later, and it was listed on the points received from that transaction. Credited to my Marriott account next statement.

Thanks for that, didn’t receive any bonus on the transaction after upgrading. I’ll try again with my new card and see if it registers it.

Just called chase and explained the situation. The CSR explained it wouldn’t show on my account under pending points but will show when the statement cuts in the statement separately, unlike a new card member bonus. She said for some reason it wasn’t showing like typical bonus points do. She assured me I have the 10k points tied to the account as an upgrade offer as well.

Responding specifically to the ” (shouldn’t that be in their system?) ” part of the article William:

Over the weekend the check-your-grade-offer site was down, but I had previously checked it and determined that I did have an upgrade offer. So I ended up calling chase while the site was down to initiate the upgrade offer over the phone. The representative insisted that she could not find any upgrade offer attached to my account in the system. So apparently, no, the upgrade offers are not necessarily in their system. I was puzzled as well.

As always, thanks for your work.

Data point:
My offer was 30K, I received 10K of 30K after one swipe, I sent a secure message, The answer was. I will receive 10K after one swipe on the old card and the remaining 20K after one swipe on the new card.
A week ago I checked my Marriott app and noticed two transactions by activity 10K and 20K that was a day after my Premier Plus has shipped.
Ironically the new card came and has the same numbers and same 3 CCV digits.

Hi Abey, I mentioned this in another thread but can you please let me know if for some reason the 15 night credit from the old card got removed from your account when you upgrade? I’m thinking it’s possible since the “new card” doesn’t include the 15 night credit until 2019,

I just got an email today inviting me to upgrade. I will be sure to save it after I upgrade. Currently waiting for my free night and AF to hit very soon then I will take the upgrade.

Also the terms clearly state you must log onto the website in the email link and upgrade by 12/31/18, so I believe everyone will have plenty of time to upgrade whenever works best for them with the current anniversary date of their Premiere card.

I don’t believe our upgrade confirmation emails show how many points we should get. At least mine did not. I did secure message Chase in anticipation of getting screwed and i’ll let ya know what they say.

I confirmed with Chase proactively that my card is going to get the 20,000 points as stated originally.
