Update 9/14/21: Some people are being incorrectly charged interest fees as well.
Some readers have noticed that Barclays is charging foreign transaction fees on cards with no foreign transaction fees. Reddit user AlarmedMatter0 was originally told that their card did have a 3% fee, but upon escalation the second rep agreed that no fee should have been charged and that the fee would be refunded.
It’s possible that Barclays plans to start charging these fees in the future and that’s what has caused this mistake but given nothing has been communicated to cardholders as of yet I think that is unlikely. I suspect at some stage Barclays will refund all of these fees automatically, but in the short term I’d recommend checking your account if you have any foreign transaction purchases on these cards.
Barclays has managed to screw up the promising wyndham business earners card too. Not just that the statements don’t give you any clue just what points you’ve earned (though oddly, it seems to show up right on the Wyndham statement)….. but the web site has been a horrendous mess. Supposedly, as of mid August, they merged those of us with business and personal Barclay’s accounts — but the problem is, they apparently didn’t process payments made first two weeks of that month, resulting in them claiming we missed payments, socking us with late fees, etc., etc. etc. Calling Barclay’s customer service is another absolute nightmare…. They “hear you,” but from whatever Asian perch they sit, they then tell you there’s nothing they can do, because you missed a payment. I ever can show them on the old barclay’s business login that they ADMIT payments were not processed (and that the problem has been corrected, etc., etc. — EXCEPT IT”S NOT!!!)
Fyi, you can see Barclay’s own admission here:
https://www.barclaycardus.com/servicing/authenticate/showSecureLoginPage?bizcard=BWY
with this idiotic, badly editing bit of ambifliguous nonsense:
“We apologize if you experienced issues with our payments services for business card accounts. Those issues were corrected and you are now able to successfully make a payment. Affected business cardmembers will not be charged late fees while the system was down and delinquency status will remain unchanged.”
What an utter cluster….
On two occasions, after realizing I was talking to someone with Hong Kong mentality (they “hear you” — then ignore you) , I asked to be transferred to a US representative…. Last time I tried that, I was on hold for OVER AN HOUR — never did get through.
Still more nightmare, I got the most juvenile business letter ever, complete with case # about my complaint — which never mentioned just what my complaint was, acted like they’d solved it, patted themselves on the back for “providing exceptional customer service,” then gave me a number to call if I still had concerns (with limited bankers hours). But instead of it being a special complaint #, it’s the same dmn’d barclays phone tree — complete with miserable wait times, then back to the Asian reps …. who hear you, then ignore you.
Last, Barclay’s has NO email option on their web site. You’re given a Delaware po box address, and that’s it.
Worst credit card issuer by far — Barclays!
I agree with everything you said. Barclays is really bad at resolving issues and is not customer friendly. I’m hoping Barclays can fix these issues over the next month or so. My points from my recent statement haven’t posted yet even after a week, so that is my current issue.
Yup, so I’m not the only one. I have been in Europe the past month and have specifically been using my Barclays Business AAviator whenever Amex isn’t accepted (so like daily lol). Took a look at my account last week and had a mini heart attack when I saw all the FTFs, thought maybe I hadn’t read the fine print on the card. Will be calling when I get back to the US later this week.
Complained about autopay being removed and now late fee on the account. Was told it was a known issue. Had a supervisor on call to add some jetblue points to my account. Was offered 100 points. When annual fee renews and they wonder why they’re losing customers…
My experience with the erroneous interest fees: https://travelwithgrant.boardingarea.com/2021/09/09/more-barclays-business-credit-cards-bugs-finance-charge-interest-fee-errors/
After calling Barclays, the interest fees were refunded the next day. Looking to see if the issue is resolved by my next CC statement.
Grant, would be great to read your experiences with the once promising Wyndham Bus earners’ card. (luv the benefits, but the execution has been an unending nightmare — see below)
I was charged $39 late fee and $11 interest …both required calls and separate days as they posted about a week from one another. Telnet credited both. I asked to talk to supervisor and supposedly credited my account 5,000 Wyndham points for the trouble…..need to wait for statement to close to see points ….
PSA: Barclays will credit you $0.99 each month if that is your total credit card statement balance. This means you can get a free $0.99/month Amazon reload on every Barclays card you have. Barclays is no good for anything else, literally.
Proof? Seems too good to be true
Some credit cards offer this benefit of small balance waiver: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/small-balance-waiver-a-k-a-lots-of-free-99-cent-amazon-gcs/ Duck Donuts
One of DoC’s CC reference pages, for one. It’s not uncommon.

“Barclays is no good for anything else, literally.” ???
I don’t know… I’m rather enjoying 7x on my restaurant spend (Arrival card) right now (thru October). 😀
Do you still get the waiver if the card is on autopay? (for Barclays specifically, but in general as well)
Yes, though your statement will have a $0 balance anyway, so it doesn’t matter if your card has autopay or not because there’ll never be any balance or payment.
I do this with Barclays and Discover.
thank you
*$1
it’s 1 buck, not just 99 cents 🙂
In addition to Barclays failing to process long established AutoPay for customers on September 7th and 8th, and thus charging a $29 Fee (refunded when I called in) — I have noted that MILES WERE NOT CREDITED (shows as 0 on Barclays statement) for AA Arrival accounts. I guess this is because their system (incorrectly) thought account was overdue, and so not eligible to earn miles? I fear this will lead Barclays to also reneg on 5X bonus offer for spending Jun-Aug – either by ongoing negligence or intent. It is hard to tell which is the bigger problem at Barclays.
Most annyoing – Barclays has made zero effort to communicate about the problem and their planned schedule for remediation. Barclays may yet beet Citi on the race to the bottom in IT and customer communications – their momentum is gaining!
I was charged late fee and interest fee. They recently merged their business account flatform with personal accounts which caused the disruption. They did refund me the fees.
I checked my last statement for the JetBlue business card and discovered they didn’t award any miles for half of my purchases. I sent a secure message, but haven’t heard back.
I got charged $39 for a late payment (using auto pay) and then another $22 random service charge
They double dipped on me too…. Late payment change and Purchase Finance Fee (I don’t carry a balance). Had to make two calls to have both credited back.
