[Expired] Publix: $50 Gas Gift Card for $40 with $50 Grocery Purchase

This deal has expired, click here to follow us on Twitter so you don’t miss out on any deals.

The Offer

Direct Link

  • Get a $50 gas gift card for $40 at Publix with coupon with $50 grocery purchase

In a single transaction, buy $50 in grocery purchases + the $50 gas gift card, and they’ll be able to apply the coupon to get $10 off.

The Fine Print

  • Valid Thursday 6/22 through Sunday 6/25 (starts tomorrow)
  • Original coupon and single transaction for at least $50 of groceries, excluding phone and gift cards, alcohol, tobacco, lottery items, money services, postage stamps, and prescriptions, required for each deal
  • Original coupon and gas card must be presented when purchasing $50 of groceries
  • Publix accepts only one minimum purchase coupon for every minimum grocery purchase, meaning minimum purchase coupons cannot be combined

Our Verdict

It’s a bit vague as to what a ‘gas gift card’ is, but I assume it means any of the regular gas brands like Exxon, BP, Shell, etc.? Let us know if you have experience with this deal as it comes out often, apparently.

Not a scalable deal due to $50 grocery requirement, but if you have lots of groceries to buy you can get a few of them by splitting up $50 of groceries per transaction.

Another thing, Publix also has gift card deals that don’t require you to purchase groceries, a lot of the time they aren’t advertised in the stores so you have to look in their add or get the digital coupons. Most of the cashiers are not aware and think you need to purchase $50 in groceries. For example the most recent ones were for Cabela’s, ITunes, and Darden, $40 for $50.

I do this frequently. You can use a gift card for any gas card. On the rare occasion they’ve given me the $10 off without even having to buy any groceries.

The Gas GC deal pretty runs every 3 weeks. Several years ago the GC would run out of stock. Now it is a YAWN deal because, thankfully now even in the very stronghold monopoly county, we now have some strong Hispanic chain entrants that are 20 to 30% cheaper than Publix in the meat and produce dept.

Publix is truly a very overpriced grocery store – it only enjoys its price points because they drove out Albertson years ago and Winn Dixi has never been a meaningful competitor. Not any more.

I only buy the BOGO in weekly ad when the BOGO items make sense to our household. Otherwise my grocery shopping is done elsewhere for the saving is 20 to 30% EVERYDAY, far exceed the $10 saving on the gas GC.

Safeway FINALLY is entering the Florida market with a whopping 3 store locations – one is in our county, right across street from a Publix. Now only if the Safeway can spread out so we can take advantage of the $10 off on VGC…

Safeway is way overpriced just like Publix. Don’t expect any breaks there.

Don’t overlook a few well-run Walmart NMs, and Trader Joe’s for more varied selections. The latter stocks higher end fare at half the Publix prices.

They have this at least twice a month. I always do it. You can buy any gas gift card 🙂 they have a bug selection. Thank you for posting it doc!! It saves me a trip to publix to find out whether it is this weekend the promo or no. A good way to maximize the 5x deal

Publix rarely has any good or even reasonable deals during the weekends when such offers are published. I don’t play their game, and shop elsewhere when they run this. This saves me more than $10 😀

@PJ: i have had no trouble getting two gift cards on one shopping trip of $100.00 – just use two coupons. However, if it is an issue at your store and you know you are going to exceed $100.00 on groceries – split them up into two transactions at the register.

It’s definitely YMMV. Some stores refuse to let me and others actually ask if I want to grab a 2nd when I pass $100.

I do this all the time, they have it once or twice a month.

Yes, you can use a CC to purchase the gas card.

The types of gift cards they offer depend on your location, I believe mine offers Shell, WaWa, Exxon, Racetrac and Marathon

You can’t buy $100 in groceries in one visit and get two.

I don’t believe it automatically comes out on the register so you might have to remind the cashier or show them the weekly ad.

My strategy, since Publix is more costly than where I usually shop, I buy stuff that is on sale that I would normally buy elsewhere…. For example if cereal is BOGO I’ll buy $50 worth of cereal (this is an example, I don’t eat cereal). You should see how much deodorant and shampoo I have stashed.

@Joe: they allow Credit Cards for the purchase of Gift Cards. This is always a great deal at Publix and they have a full Gift Card Section including Gas Cards. I always do my weekly grocery shopping there and pick up a WaWa Gas Card with this deal. If you break down the savings – its a 20% savings on the Gas Card plus whatever your cash back/ miles percentage is on the credit card you use!

More than happy to answer any other questions – as i live in the heart of Publix country in Florida.

I wonder if they allow CC’s for GC’s or if you have to use your DC.

I buy these every 3 weeks or so. I’ve always bought with a cc. You pay for these when you buy your groceries.
