Our Verdict
I think this is a terrible deal for a few reasons, but let me just start by pointing out that this is clearly a maximum discount of 35% – not 45%. I make a lot of errors on this site, so I won’t be too hard on whoever made this one. There are two main reasons I think this is a bad deal:
- This is a promo code, not a gift card. This matters for a few reasons:
- You can’t stack it with a shopping portal or other promo codes
- You have to use the full $1,000 in a single booking, any left over amount is forfeit
- If you cancel or modify your booking the promo code still can’t be reused
- They are selling a total of 60 of these promo codes. Even if you want one, chances are you won’t be able to purchase one
A discount of 35% on hotels is good, but it’s not such a crazy deal. I’ve shown people how to get similar discounts by stacking hotels.com’s rewards program, portals and discounted gift cards for example. This 35% discount is also theoretical, it assumes you make a perfect booking of exactly $1,000 and have absolutely no issues with your booking that need modifying. If you spend less than $1,000 you forfeit the remaining balance and if you spend more than $1,000 then this is spend that could have been put through a portal/stacked with a promo code. Honestly if this deal had a big quantity and you were basically guaranteed to be able to purchase one then I might even buy one, but chances are you’re going to end up wasting your time trying to get in on a deal that is only so/so.
If you do want to purchase one, remember to use a card that earns a category bonus on travel purchases as daily getaways does code as such.
