Q1 2018 Hotel Promotions Now Available For Registration: Hilton, SPG, Marriott & IHG

A number of hotel chains have released their promotions for quarter one of 2018. I was going to do an individual post on each one, but don’t think they really justify it so enjoy this master post instead.

Our Verdict

Predictably none of these bonuses are enough to get me to change my booking habits, although Hilton sometimes becomes more attractive as you stack more and more deals together. Best piece of advice I can give is to just sign up to all the promotions even if you don’t have any plans to stay at any of these chains, as you will undoubtedly forget to sign up if you do make a booking later. Still waiting on the Hyatt promotion I think. Let me know if you prefer this format or if you like having an individual post for each promotion.

These promos are for paid stays only, correct? I read over Marriott terms and either I missed the part that clarifies this or it does not exist. Just confirming what I believe to be true. Thank you.

I’ve stayed 30 nights at Hyatt total the past two years and only 4 of those are paid stays. The most I’ve earned was during their double points promo so total of 10x per dollar. My stays at Hilton have ranged from 20-30x per dollar for stays that they had promo for. I’ve never stayed at Marriott or IHG since they’re usually meh with earning points and I try not to do paid stays. So, yeah, these promos only deserve scattered applause.

For Hilton, if I booked 5 nights together would I get 2k points for each night, or just 2k for all 5 plus the 10k bonus?

The bonus looks to be based on the number of stays. In this case of 5 night being booked together, you would only receive 2,000 bonus points total.

Seems true. What would stop us from booking one night at a time for 5 nights?

I believe in that situation, it would still be considered 1 stay. If you were sharing the room with someone else, you could flip-flop with that person everyday. For example, the 1st night would be under my name, the 2nd night would be under my wife’s name, the 3rd night would be under my name, etc. You would need to book each night separately on the Hilton website and then call the hotel to make sure that all nights would be in the same room. You should call right away to avoid the possibility of the hotel becoming too full and needing to switch rooms. My wife and I do this frequently when there is a good promotion based on stays and not nights.

Marriott MegaBonus promotions tend to be tailored to individual members. I do not yet show a Q1 promotion as a Platinum member with points set as my earning preference.
