The Offer
There’s currently a quadruple stack on HMO Max annual membership:
- Through April 9, 2024, HBO dropped the prices on their annual Max subscription.
- 1-Year With Ads $69.99 (Stream on 2 devices at once; Full HD video resolution)
- 1-Year Ad-Free $104.99 (Stream on 2 devices at once; Full HD video resolution; 30 downloads to watch on the go)
- 1-Year Ultimate Ad-Free $139.99 (Stream on 4 devices at once; 4K Ultra HD video quality as available; Dolby Atmos immersive audio as available; 100 downloads to watch on the go)
- If you spend $99 or more, be sure to put the charge on a card with a special cashback offer. Currently a lot of us can get $25-$35 if you make the purchase using a Chase card or $25 if you make the purchase using an Amex card which has the linked offer for HBO Max.
- Go through a shopping portal before signing up. Rakuten is currently offering $20/2,000 with the Ultimate yearly plan and $15/1,500 with the regular ad-free plan.
- If you have Sam’s Club membership, you can get 15% Sam’s cash back on an annual Max sub if you pay with a linked card. Sam’s Plus members get an additional 20% of whatever the cash back comes to. That will end up being 18% cashback total. Make sure to activate the bonus offer in your sam’s bonus offers account and link the Amex or Chase card you intend to pay with. That’s all, this isn’t a shopping portal, just pay with your linked card (don’t use Paypal or similar if that’s an option, enter your credit card).
The Fine Print
- Important: After your discounted subscription period, your subscription will automatically renew each year at the then-current subscription price for the yearly plan that you signed up for. If you cancel your subscription, you will continue to have access to Max for the remainder of time you have already paid for And so I’d recommend cancelling immediately after signup.
- There is no refund or credits for partial years, FYI.
- Existing Max customers currently enrolled in a Max yearly plan via max.com cannot apply an Offer to your existing plan, but you may switch to one of the other yearly plans to take advantage of an Offer.
- These offers are for (a) new, returning and existing customers via max.com, (b) new and returning customers through the following participating subscription providers: Roku, Google Play and Apple and (c) new customers through Amazon Appstore.
Our Verdict
Altogether it’s possible for someone to get the ad-free version for $105+tax and get back the following:
- $35 on their Sapphire Reserve card
- $15/1,500 from Rakuten which some people will value at $20+
- Around $15-$19 from the Sam’s Club deal

Capital One Offers currently has the following:
Premium – Yearly $37.00
Ad-Free – Annual $32.00
Ad-Lite – Annual $28.00
Ad-Free – Monthy $17.00
Ad-Lite – Monthly $11.00
Rakuten for Ad Free/Year was just $7.50 dollars 2 weeks ago and they didnt even gave it to me. When I tried to tell them they asked for order# from Max but Max does not provide one. Chatted with them and support said to ask my bank for a receipt xD. So I guess I’ll take an L on that one
My order tracked but for a $0 reward. That shopping trip showed me an order number of the pattern USERID:bolt:some unique ID. The missing cash back request form didn’t take the colons so I just pasted in the unique ID part of it and my request was accepted. But you’re right, that number wasn’t anywhere on the email I got from MAX or the account webpage.
Rakuten is only $10 for Ultimate today. Ima check back over the next few days, see if it goes back up.
Yearly without ads is now $110.99. Should have signed up a week ago when it was $104.99….
Yup….saw this today as well when I signed up. Still ends up being less than $5/month if you do all the stacking opportunities Chuck mentions above. Note: If you use your Amex, you can get the $25 Max offer AND the $5 off $50 on your cable/internet bill offer if you have both on your card. (Others appear to have a $10 off $50 version)
Did anyone get the rebate from chase yet?
I did.
Good deal, I was paying $2.99 for the version with Ads, had a month or so left of that I think but this made sense. I did the ad-free plan for $105, getting $25 back from chase and rakuten offered me $15 back so $65 out the door. Funny thing is I had gotten used to the ads on Max they are not really that bad and planned on staying on that plan but with the $25 back from chase it only made a $10 a year difference.
Rakuten currently advertising:
$35 for ultimate
$25 for ad free
$20 for with ads
My purchase is showing up under “shopping trips” with all of the correct details (order amount, etc.) but the cashback is showing as $0.
Same happened to me. Did you email them?
RAKUTEN only showing $20 for ad free – can you verify?
It was 35 for St Patty Day only
Same here. Shows $0 when it should be $25
Rakuten denied my claim because the “ultimate” plan isn’t an option on the pull-down menu
The Premium plan is the one you should choose from the drop-down
It was the same story for me… I used the Rakuten Missing Cashback feature.
I got a Receipt Number from the Max chat & after submitting the missing Cashback form it immediately said $35 added to your Cashback account.
Rakuten cashback is higher today than last 2 days!!
Note that Amex offer is valid until September 30, 2024, Sams Club is until December 2040. MAX allows you to change existing subscription and take advantage of the offer. This means if you have an existing subscription that renews before September 30, 2024, you update the payment card and then can switch. Subscription will renew at the offer price.
Yo-ho, yo-ho a pirate’s life for me.
Stop paying for streaming services and just get it all for free.
