QuikTrip Credit Card Review – Up To 5x Back In Store

QuikTrip & First National Bank of Omaha have partnered to offer the QuikTrip credit card, it’s called a credit card but can only be used at QuikTrip stores (both for gas at the pump and in store) so really it’s a store card. Let’s take a look at the card and see if it’s worth applying for or not:

  • 3¢ off per gallon at the pump every day (this discount is automatically applied at the pump)
  • 22¢ off per gallon applied as a statement credit (up to 200 gallons) for the first two billing cycles
  • Earn 1 point per $1 spent on in store purchases
  • Sign up bonus of 100 points on your first statement
  • Points can be redeemed for a $10 QT Gift Card
  • No annual fee

How Much Are Points Worth?

In the fine print of the offer it says that points are automatically redeemed in 200 point increments and that gives you a $10 QuikTrip Gift Card. That means each point is worth 5¢ in QuikTrip gift cards, these sell for about 80-85% of facevalue.

Sign Up Bonus

So there is basically two aspects to this cards sign up bonus, you get 22¢ off per gallon of gas for the first two billing cycles. That’s on up to 200 gallons so at the very most that is worth $44 if you use it fully. You also get 100 points, that is worth about $5 in QuikTrip gift cards for an absolute maximum bonus of $49.

Earning Points/Rewards

This card basically earns 5¢ in QuikTrip gift cards per $1 spent in store and gives you a 3¢ instant discount on gas. There are quite a few exclusions on in store purchases though, the following won’t earn points: QuikTrip Fuel Purchases, alcohol, tobacco, lottery, postage stamps, gift cards, phone cards, money orders, event tickets and passes or rentals.

Our Verdict

This card isn’t worth signing up for, there are cards that earn 5% cash back on all gas prices. If we say that gas is a cheap $2 a gallon then a cash back card would earn you 10¢ back per gallon, this only earns you 3¢. I guess it could give of make sense if you made a lot of purchases at a QuikTrip store, but given that gift cards and money orders are excluded I doubt this would be an option for most people.

If this card earn 3x points on QuikTrip gas purchases, then I’d definitely be worth getting but at the moment I’d avoid it. If you want a better sign up bonus, check out these cash sign up bonuses instead.

Thanks to @RichardsonJesse for suggesting we review this card, we’re trying to review a new card every day for a month, if you have one you’d like reviewed let us know on Twitter.

I signed up when they offered the 25¢ off, but I ended up paying more in fees than I ever saved. The Bank of Omaha doesn’t process electronic payments. If you schedule a payment through your bank, the bank has to cut a paper check and mail it. After I learned about this, I was told I would receive a credit for my first late fee and I adjusted the payment date to accommodate for this. After receiving no credit and paying $70 in late fees, I canceled my card.

There’s no savings here!
