After U.S Airways & American Airlines merged, the official links for the U.S Airways Barclaycard product no longer worked. People were still able to apply for these cards by using somebodies referral links, but these are also no longer available and all result in “Offer Expired”.
It’s been a good run while it’s lasted, I’m sad to see that this card go away officially but will continue to make use of my Aviator red card. If anybody does find any working links for the US Airways card, please let us know in the comments.
So I got the US Airways card before the merge, thinking it would give me more chances to earn AA miles… But since the US Aircard I just got is now an Aviator AA Card anyways, is there any REAL benefit? Its not like I can apply for another Aviator card since they will be converting mine… Am I missing something?
Well, you got the sign up bonus on the US Airways card which is another 50k AA miles.
Right, but the net outcome is the same as if I had just waited for Aviator Card and gotten that 50K to begin with.
I feel like with more planning, I should have applied for the US Airways Card, AND the Aviator before the merge, and then I’d have the 50K sign up for both = 100K already. (Plus the cost for both Sign up fees)
You’re slightly mistaken. The Barclays Aviator card is NOT available for anyone to sign-up for. You can only get the Aviator card as a conversion if you had the previous Barclays US Airways card.
The advantage of signing up for the US Airways card before the merge was that now you have the 50k from the Barclays US Airways card. The new AA card is the Citi AAdvantage Mastercard, which you can still apply for another 50k miles.
If you had waited until after the merge, you would have only been able to apply for the Citi AAdvantage card with 50k miles.
Since you applied for US Airways, now you get 50k miles from the US Airways card… and another 50k from Citi AAdvantage whenever you apply.
Cheers!
Ha, that’s exactly what I was hoping for in the 1st place! Thank you very much for the clarification!
No it’s not the same outcome. I think you’re getting confused and thinking that you can’t also sign up for the Citi product. By signing up for the US Airways card previously you can still get a total of 100,000 points by also applying for the Citi card. If you had waited, you wouldn’t have been able to get the sign up bonus on the US Airways/Aviator card at all.
I applied Friday morning. Was declined, but approved on reconsideration.
Applied the other day while the page was still working… went to pending, then to declined 🙁
Do you know if I can use the US Air companion ticket with ticket booked with credit card reward points? i.e. USBank
I have an emailed sign up link that says it expires April 20th, 2015, but the link no longer works… What the heck? That’s lame.
Yeah, I expected the links to last until April 20th at least. Surprised they were cut off early, might be worth calling Barclaycard and say that you had a friend that was planning on signing up and thought they had until the 20th to see what they say.
Gave Barclay a call on their credit card application number and it was a no go. They said the offer has expired.
