[Expired] Rakuten: 10%/10x At Dozens Of Stores (Includes Staples – Stack With Amex 10% & Dosh 6%)

Deal has ended, view more Rakuten deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Direct Link to offer (contains my Rakuten referral; here’s a link with no referral)

  • Rakuten is offering 10%/10x back at more than 150 online retailers.

The list of stores includes Staples, Adidas, Old Navy, Overstock and dozens more.

The Fine Print

  • Valid today only (Monday, 8/3) until midnight PT

Our Verdict

10% is pretty good for many retailers, and even more interesting to some who value Membership Rewards points more than cash.

Most notable here might be the inclusion of Staples.com where you can get 10%/10x from Rakuten with this deal. That can be stacked it with the AmEx Offer to get 10% back at Staples.com, plus 6% back from Dosh (the Dosh deal is limited to $5 per day). It’ll probably work out especially well for name brand products whose prices are constant across all retailers, such as Apple products or Bose products.

That’s a lot of stores but unfortunately, Macy’s is the only one I shop at and I don’t plan to shop there right now.

Quick note on Rakuten while this is post is recent:

Received an e-mail from Rakuten Merchant Services on Friday afternoon stating that: “The Rakuten Americas marketplace service, located at //rakuten.com/shop, will stop taking orders from September 15th 2020. Merchant services will continue to be available after this date until the business closes. We will provide more information on the business closure date and the closure plan by August 14.”

More info: “Please handle returns as usual. Merchants can continue to use the merchant systems after September 15 until the business is closed. Rakuten will provide more concrete guidance by August 14.”

So maybe be wary about purchasing anything that you may need to return as there’s no guidance yet on how third party sellers will deal with returns following the shuttering of their US marketplace. This is all the info they have provided so far.

Edit: Consumer source here… https://techcrunch.com/2020/07/30/rakuten-is-shuttering-the-online-shop-formerly-known-as-buy-com/

Ebates/Cashback is still good to go though!

It’s very YMMV. Doable in AZ, but that may be a long way to go for MOs.

You’d be surprised at how extensive Staples’ inventory is. I’ve bought tools from them when they’ve had their periodic cashback promotions and stacked it with the customary $20 or $25 off $100 coupons they send out. Can’t be assured you’ll find what you want but it doesn’t hurt to try

I’ve found that Rakuten gives cash back on the subtotal, before rewards.

Apple products are so often excluded from earning cash back
